Friday 19th September 1941

Bachelor Mother (1939) is a American comedy film directed by Garson Kanin, and starring Ginger Rogers (in a non-dancing, non-singing role), David Niven, and Charles Coburn. The screenplay was written by Norman Krasna based on a story by Felix Jackson (aka Felix Joachimson). With a plot full of mistaken identities, Bachelor Mother is a light-hearted treatment of the otherwise serious issues of child abandonment.

It was remade in 1956 as Bundle of Joy, starring Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher.

After 58 years, family finally get together with Paul.

Source: The Nationalist Archives Friday, August 17, 2001

PAUL DELANEY celebrated a very important day in his life on Tuesday, his 34th wedding anniversary. But on Saturday last, an even more important event took place for the 58-year-old Carlowman. A reunion with family members he never knew he had.
But unknown to him Paul’s own life-story would have held its own with anything Hollywood had to offer.
Born in Seán Ross Abbey in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary., on April 27, 1943, Paul was brought to Carlow in July of that year. From then until September of last year he always knew he had either been adopted or fostered, and never really gave much consideration to finding his birth mother.
Then one day last September. I heard a man in his 40s tell his story on the Pat Kenny radio programme, and on the spur of the moment decided to make some enquiries, Paul added. Those enquiries have led to Paul discovering he has six sisters and three brothers, most of whom live just 25 miles from Paul’s home.

Martin Curran, Projectionist in Coliseum Cinema c.1993

These pictures which are extremely rare. They were sent in by Terry Curran 2009

Note from Michael Purcell:

They are very good pictures...the picture of the seated interior area was taken after the Cinema had been refurbished. The long wooden seats have been removed from "The Pit". It began at the point where the steps stop, there was a low wooden barrier to separate it from the "posh-seats". The projection room picture is another good shot. A similar shot of the exterior was reproduced on the Nationalist when the Cinema closed. The Coliseum Cinema was built on what used to be Ryan's Coal yard.

Backbeat is a 1994 Anglo-German independent drama film
