Eddie Forde
Footballer

Co. Carlow Sports Awards 1980

— Setanta Award —

Eddie Forde from Hacketstown is the 40 year old 1980 winner of this coveted award which is given for work for the youth. The Tipperary-born farmer is a keen golfer and more than an adequate hurler with Clonmore. He is married with three children. The club, realising the need of a Youth Officer in 1977, found the ideal one in the straight-talking Eddie, who immediately was accepted by the youth of Hacketstown and district. Appointed Secretary, he organised weekly coaching in conjunction with former county player; Tommy Kehoe. Their doctrine "Football is Fun" quickly caught on and the present very successful juvenile club quickly established itself in an area with no great tradition for this level of activity.

Eddie is nothing if not thorough and organising various ventures, he had put the juvenile club despite its heavy expenditure in a very sound financial position, which matches its new standing on the field of play.

Eddie Forde was chosen for the "Outstanding Service" Award which was presented at the Carlow GAA Awards night on Saturday, 16 January, 2010.

This is by no means the first award that Eddie has received as this extract from "Our Sporting Heritage" dated 1980 shows.

Well done Eddie on this well deserved recognition for a lifetime of dedicated service to club and county.
