19th Day of April 1772

The Information of Joseph Washington of Castle House Leighlin Bridge in the Townland of Leighlin and County of Carlow.

Sworn saith that he usually Resides at the place above described and that on the Eighteenth Day of April 1772 he found his Servant boy Peter Oulaghan of The Ridge Leighlin lying Face down in a Cesspit adjoining Castle House, it appeared that Peter Oulaghan was Dead and had been so Dead for hours. It is the Belief of Joseph Washington that Peter Oulaghan was Kilt by a Wicked and Evil desposed person who is known to this Informant and lives near Castle House in Aforesaid place and further Saith not.

I have just updated a couple of footnotes that may be of interest to those looking at lands around Hacketstown:

A 1722 Deed: 76-2-52415 may shed light on the roots of this family: Lease whereby Benjamin BURTON of City of Dublin Esq. Did demise and set to Joseph BARKER of Cronesagh in the Co of Carlow Farmer all that part of Eagle Hill mearing and bounding on the north with Hacketstown on the east with Ballysallagh on the south with Cronesagh and on the west with Constable Hill containing by estimation 119 acres Plantation Measure...part of Lordship of Clonmore... Barony Rathvilly ... lives of George BARKER 3rd son of John BARKER of Old Court in Co. Wicklow aged about 8 years Simon BARKER 4th son of said John BAKER [BARKER?] aged about 5 years and Thomas BAKER [BARKER] the youngest son of Joseph BAKER [BARKER?] aged about half a year.... in presence of Henry WHITESTONE of Hacketstown and Patrick KAHOE then servant to the said Benjamin BURTON
