Assault on Patrick Nowlan ~ 1831

In the tenth year of the reign of George the Fourth.

The Jurors of our Lord the King upon their oath, present that, Patrick Hughes of Ballinbrannagh, in the County of Carlow, Yeoman on the first day of April in the tenth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Fourth, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and soforth, at Crossneen in the County of Carlow, in and upon one Patrick Nowlan a true and faithful subject of our said Lord the King, in the peace of God, and in the peace of our said Lord the King, then and there being, did make an assault and him the said Patrick Nowlan then and there did beat, wound, and ill treat, so that his life was greatly despaired of, and other wrongs to the said Patrick Nowlan then and there did, to the great damage of the said Patrick Nowlan and against the peace of our said Lord the King, his crown and dignity. The Information of James Bedlow of the Town of Carlow Taken before me one of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for Carlow.

Who being duly Sworn and Examined Saith that on Friday the 21st day of October 1831 John Bedlow of the Town of Carlow came into the Dwelling house of James Bedlow and in a most wasting and outrageous manner Illured James Bedlows Home and Family by Breaking of the same - at the same time Swearing in a most Violent and outrageous manner that he would have or take James Bedlows life and from the threats made by him and his declarations as well now as heretofore James Bedlow is in dread and fear of his life to go on his lawful occasions either by day or night. (signed) James Bedlow.

Sworn before me this 21st Day of October 1831.
