(1970 - Apr. 14, 2003)
Film production manager

Trevor Murray, from Ballintrane, Fenagh,
Co. Carlow

A Carlowman who worked on some of the leading Hollywood block-buster films in recent times has been found dead in his apartment in the Thai capital, Bangkok, where he was wrapping up another film.

Trevor Murray, from Ballintrane, Fenagh, Co. Carlow who was based in Los Angeles, had been working as production manager on a film starring action hero Steven Seagal and was due home to visit his parents, Bertie and Sheila when the film wrapped up in three weeks’ time.

However, on Monday morning when members of the film crew called for him to go to work they became concerned when they were unable to contact him. He was subsequently found in bed in his apartment. The authorities, who carried out a post-mortem on Tuesday, have ruled out foul play.

The family of the 33-year-old model maker were informed of the tragic news by the Department of Foreign Affairs on Monday night.

Trevor studied design at Carlow RTC from 1987 to 1990 and then moved to Dublin where he worked for an architectural model-maker. After that he became involved in making the sets for a number of independent theatre groups in the capital, such as Rough Magic.

While in Dublin he also worked on the model for the science fiction film Space Truckers, starring Denis Hopper.

He moved to America in 1996 where he worked for a design consultancy in New York and later to Los Angeles to work on Titanic.

Other notable projects included work on such films as Virus, My Favourite Martian and Species 2.

Because of his success in model building Trevor had made a name for himself in the industry and in recent years was employed as production manager with regard to sets on films.

Trevor is survived by his parents, Bertie, a well known athlete in the 1950s and 60s and Sheila, two brothers, Douglas, who lives in Carlow and Eric, who lives in New York, and sister, Mrs. Jean Tomkins, who lives at Ardattin.
