Photo No.036
Inscription on number 035:
In Memory of MARY, the eldest daughter of |
Sir EDMUND WORKMAN MACNAGHTEN Bart of this County |
and of Upper Brook Street, London |
where she died at the age of 25 on the 18th May 1857 |
in subsequence of injuries by Fire |
having unknowingly placed her foot upon |
and ignited a Lucifer match dropped from a writing table |
at which she was sitting |
Her sufferings were neither acute nor (-) |
and for this merciful dis(--)nsation |
being fully aware of approaching death and resigned to it, |
she expressed herself unfeignedly thankful |
God had endowed her on an especial (-) with (-) |
both of (-) and of person and their value was enriched |
by the manifest unconsciousness that she possessed (-). |
Gifted with an understanding |
clear, vigorous, and (-) |
with a disposition |
cheerful, gentle and affectionate . |
Ever mistress of herself |
she permitted no event to disturb her unamimity. |
Pure in heart and religious, it was her constant (-) |
to practise every precept inculcated by her Redeemer |
through the hearts and the atonement of whom |
she looked with confidence to that eternal day |
with her Father in Heaven |
which her earthly parents humbly trust |
she has attained. |

Of old that patriarchal faith JEHOVAH used |
but human weakness (-) deigned to (-) |
The afflicted parents comfort and provided |
Himself a Lamb for a burnt offering. |

An Angel then commissioned from above |
Spake and the arm to smith with deliverance |
So now is evidenced unfailing love |
So now unfailing mercy is displayed |

For providence, not Fate decreed the fire |
which struck the appointed sacrifice to God |
by grace sustained, to Heaven was her desire |
THERE that she lives our solace 'tis to know |
