Fermanagh - Clifford, Ann, Corrigan April 20, 1894 *********************************************** Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Fermanagh Index Copyright ************************************************ File contributed by: Paul Clifford clifferty@hotmail.com September 12, 2009, 7:34 pm Clifford, Ann, Corrigan April 20, 1894 "The Queensland Times", Ipswich, Queensland Australia, April 1894 DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT. A very old resident of the colony passed away last week in the person of Mrs. Ann Clifford, relict of the late Mr. C. Clifford, who died in 1845, and mother of our Divisional Board Chairman. She arrived in the colony in 1864 from Fermanagh, Ireland, and was then considered a very old woman, but since her arrival here she seemed to receive a new lease of life, her age at the time of her death being 103 years. The deceased lived with her son, Mr. C. Clifford, at Goodna until 1884, when she came to Esk to live with her youngest son, Mr. P. Clifford, and remained here until her death. The old lady was capable of threading a needle and doing her own sewing, without the aid of glasses, until within a week of her death. Dr. Aird was called in but could do nothing for her, the system being completely worn out, and death claimed her while asleep, she passing away without the least sign of pain. Around her grave stood her three sons, Mr. James Clifford, of the Royal Hotel, Goodna, Mr. John Clifford, of Redbank, and Mr. P. Clifford, Chairman of the Esk Divisional Board, the youngest, who is fifty six years of age. The latest advices from home state that her brother (five years her senior) was still alive. The funeral was largely attended. Additional Comments: Ann Clifford's husband Cornelius Clifford died in Mullyneeny, Fermanagh in 1845. She had seven sons and a daughter, all born in Fermanagh. Six of her offspring migrated to Australia: Mary Doonan (nee Clifford), John, James, Edward, Patrick(my great grandfather) and Cornelius Clifford. I have been unable to find any information on the other two sons.
