The 1659 Census of Ireland was edited by Seamus Pender, so is sometimes called the Pender Census of Ireland. The records are divided by barony, parish and townland. The census lists the total population, then breaks it down to the number of English and Irish. The column "tituladoes" lists the people with standing in Kiltomy the parish. "They are very much the well-to-do of this period in history. It is an interesting exercise to compare the spellings of the townland names of a parish listed in this document with the spelling recorded in Griffiths Valuation," M. O'Connor notes in his A Guide to Tracing your Kerry Ancestors.
