All of Ireland is smaller than the State of Maine (32.593 v. 33,040 sq. miles) County Kerry alone is smaller than the state of Delaware (1,815 v. 2,045) If 1,815 square miles were a perfect square, it would be only about 40 miles by 45 miles. Many of the Baronies are less than 100 square miles (10 mi. by 10 mi.) The townlands are almost always under a square mile in size, often only a few (English) acres. (Thanks Ray Marshall!)
