Tralee War Memorial

This is a transcription of names on the War Memorial outside the Court House on Ashe Street, in Tralee. Contributor Bill Ball gives this description of the memorial:

Two large built-up stone pedestals stand either side of the Court House steps, each surmounted by a cannon. On the front of the left pedestal is the word 'Crimea', on the right pedestal 'India'. Both pedestals bear the same inscription on their rear face:

IN THE WARS IN
RUSSIA
INDIA AND CHINA
1854 TO 1860
THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED BY THEIR

On the sides of the pedestals are eight panels inscribed with the names of the 124 fallen, their ranks and units, all roughly grouped by unit. In our list, the surnames are in alphabetical order.

Notes: Spelling and abbreviations are as original (e.g. Fusileers instead of more normal Fusiliers). Captain Charles Luke Hare according to other sources was the brother of the Earl of Listowel, who died 22.9.1854 of wounds received at Alma, Crimea, serving in the 7th Foot (not 3rd as per this memorial). H.M. was sometimes used to show that units were part of main British Army rather than from Indian Army for instance, but here whether or not there is an H.M. in front of regiment number appears to be just a question of whether there was room on that inscription. For instance other sources show Captain Spring served in H.M. 24th Foot Regiment (he was killed in Indian Mutiny 7.7.1857).
