Other Assorted Weatherhead Information

Robert Weatherhead’s death registration in 1921 shows that he was born in Benburg (properly Benburb) to William Weatherhead and his wife (formerly C Wilson).

The initial Griffith’s Valuation of Ireland shows a William Weatherhead residing in the townland of Benburb in the Parish of Clonfeacle in 1860.

Further information:

Townland of Benburb

Plot 7 B a) William Weatherhead leased a house and garden of one rood from
a George Beaumont who held a house and 12 acres at 7 A and B
from Viscount Powerscourt

George Beaumont was one of the witnesses to William Weatherhead’s marriage to Catherine Wilson in 1851. William’s residence at that time was given as Lislasley, Charlemont District [Parish of Loughgall].

The Revision Books of the Griffith’s Valuation show William Weatherhead leasing this house until the 1877 Revision, when he ceased to be the leaseholder with no mention of the next leaseholder (and no mention of the house being pulled down). The preceding Revision was carried out in 1873. [VAL/12B/38/4A-4F]

This shows that William Weatherhead lived in Benburb from (at least) 1860 until sometime between 1873 and 1877. His marriage certificate shows him as resident in Lislasley, Parish of Loughgall in 1851.

Evidence found in Civil Registration of Marriages, that Church of Ireland Charlemont, Parish of Loughgall, was the family church for the Weatherheads of Lislasley.  However, baptismal records for this church have not survived prior to 1880 and we may very well have lost baptismal records for William and Catherine’s children in this way.

Church of Ireland Loughgall records have survived, but may not be relevant as the family do appear to have attended the Charlemont church and we do not have any evidence of Weatherhead marriages in the more distant C of I Loughgall.

Church of Ireland Annaghmore (Parishes of Clonfeacle and Loughgall) baptismal records have survived from 1856 and were searched these from that date until 1865, but found no Weatherhead baptisms.

The Church of Ireland Confeacle Parish Church baptismal records prior to 1869 were destroyed in the Dublin fires.

Searching Civil Registration of Marriage Records for the Registration District of Dungannon (covering Benburb) from 1864, it is found that there was not a single Weatherhead (or variant spelling) marriage in this church between 1864 and 1922.

Mary Jane Weatherhead married a Thomas Macartney in Moy Church of Ireland, Parish of Clonfeacle on 26th December 1867, Book 04 Page 38, while Moy and Charlemont are very close to each other, but not the obvious churches for someone living in Benburb.

John Weatherhead married an Eleanor Cooper in Clonaneese Lower Presbyterian Church on 24th June 1881, Book 01 Page 48.
