About This County Genealogical Project

Project History

DerryGenWeb was one of 32 county genealogical project with the original IrelandGenWeb founded as IRGenWeb on March 20, 1996.

In September 1996 the project name was changed to IrelandGenWeb (IGW)  TM.

In 1998 this project, along with Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh and Tyrone, were taken, without permission of the members of IGW, by WorldGenWeb (WGW) to form their North Ireland GenWeb Project (NIGW) which later associated with BritishGenWeb.  This was a political decision to turn part of the original all Ireland project into a British Project.

The members filed a grievance with WGW because they felt that genealogy in Ireland should not be divided by political boundaries. The grievance was never heard.

In Feb 2002 the project name was changed to Ireland Genealogy Projects (IGP) TM.

At that time these six counties were returned to the Ireland project where they started in 1996.

Our mission remains unchanged, is to collect and display genealogical records online free for researchers.

Records donated by researchers to this project are published herein with full credit to the contributor and all contributions belong to the submitters who provide permission to publish.

To submit records for posting, please contact Webmaster.
