My own McDARBY is
my maternal grandfather, Michael, who was illegitimate and so I am
unsure how much of what he said is reliable as he may have been
trying to conceal his illegitimacy. Also ages he gave varied madly
on different documents. His age on leaving the army is years out
from what it should have been based on the age he gave when
enlisting. His age given on marriage matches nothing, and the age
given by next of kin on the death certificate differs again. The
possible birth dates are between 1854 and 1874. I have more or less
decided to give up on the search as everything is so unreliable.
However something may turn up one day.
