1728 Marriage License

Wheras Francis Harvy of Ballyhackett in the County of Carlow and Sarah Stephens of Coleydine in the County of Wexford haveing Declared Their Intentions of Taking Each Other in Marriage before Several publick meetings of the people called Quakers in the said County of Wexford, According to the good order used amongst them whose proceedings therein after a Deliberate consideration thereof with regard unto the righteous Law of God and Example of his people Recorded in the Scriptures of truth in that Case: were approved of by Said Meetings they appearing clear from all others in relation to marriage and haveing parents and relations consent, And also due publication being made of their said intended marriage in the respective meetings unto which they do belong, Now these are to certifie all whom it may concern that for the full Accomplishing of their Said Intentions this the Twefth Day of the fifth month Called July in the Year According to the English Account One Thousand Seven hundred twenty and Eight, the said Francis Harvey and Sarah Stephens Appeared in A publick Assembly of the aforesaid people and Others met together to worship god in their publick meeting place at Coleydine aforesaid – And in a Solemn Manner he the Said Francis Harvy taking the Said Sarah Stephens by the hand did openly Declare as Followeth VIZ: Friends You are my Witnesses that I take Sarah Stephens to be my wife promising through the Lords Assistance to be unto her A loving and Faithful Husband until by death we are Seperated

And then and there in the Said Assembly ye Said Sarah Stephens did in Like Manner Declare as Followeth, Friends you are my witnesses y-?: I Take Francis Harvy to be my Husband promising through the Lord's Assistance to be unto him a Loving and Faithfull Wife until by death we are Seperated

And the Said Francis and Sarah as a further Confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands as Husband and Wife

And we Whose Names are hereunto Subscribed being Present among others at the Sollemnizing of their Said Marriage and Subscription in Manner afore Said as Wittnesses hereunto have also to these Presents Subscribed our Names the Day and Year above Written.
