Death
of the Marquis of Ormonde, K.P.
Death of
James Edward William Theobold Butler, third Marquis of Ormonde occurred
at Kilkenny Castle this week. He was a man of splendid physique and was
considered one of the handsomest men of his time. Lady Ormonde, a
beautiful woman, had a striking compliment paid to her at the time of
her marriage. It is said that when she entered the ballroom at Dublin
Castle the strains of the waltz gradually ceased, as the musicians
stopped playing to admire her beauty. At Kilkenny Castle they frequently
entertained distinguished guests and occasionally the famous collection
of gold plate was displayed. The collection was given to the first Duke
of Ormonde by King Charles the First.
