It is with much regret that we have to record the death of Mr George Langran, which took place on Friday morning, 12th March, at his residence, 1 Athy Place, Carlow. The deceased gentleman had reached the advance age of 83 years and had only recently retired from active business life. His death removes an outstanding personality in Irish journalistic life. Some sixty years ago Mr Langran became associated with the "Carlow News" but soon transferred to the "Carlow Sentinel". He succeeded Mr Thomas Carroll, M.A., as editor and proprietor of "The Carlow Sentinel" a post that he held with dignity and honour until the date of his retirement, 30th September 1919. His service to the cause he espoused was suitably recognised in October last, when Mr Langran was the recipient of a handsome presentation. His quiet, unassuming nature and open-handed generosity to all deserving charities won for him the respect and love of the whole community. The funeral to Killeshin was a striking public testimony to the universal regard in which he was held. Source: Michael Purcell 2011
