Carlow Sentinel, September 1920.
Death of Kate
Hodges, Carlow.
We regret to have to chronicle
the death of Mrs Kate Hodges, widow of the late Mr. Edward Hodges,
Dublin Street, Carlow, which sad event took place at the County
Infirmary, Carlow, on Saturday last. She had only two days illness and
her friends were deeply shocked at her sudden demise.
The funeral to Killeshin
Cemetery where she was buried after a short service in St. Mary's
Church, Carlow, was very large and representative. The chief mourner
was: Mr Harry Catheart (nephew).
Of a very loving and generous
disposition, she is deeply regretted by a host of friends which she made
during her life in Carlow.
Her five sons served with
honours in the late war, in which her son Alfred (Pop), a well known
Carlow sportsman, was killed.
To her remaining sons, Frank,
Ned, Jack and Charlie, who are at present in South Africa, where she
expected to join them shortly, the sympathy of the entire of Carlow and
district goes out.
( Note added by Michael Purcell
2011. Charlie Hodges returned on holiday to Carlow in the 1970s, he
published an article in Carlovina following that visit.)
