[Note added 2011, beyond themselves not everyone was caught up in the momentous developments taking place in Ireland in July 1921!] Nationalist and Leinster Times. July 1921. Correspondence. To the Editor "Nationalist and Leinster Times". Tullow Street, Carlow. 19th July 1921. Dear Sir - It has come to my knowledge that my recent success at the K.S. Examinations is attributed to private tuition. I wish to publicly and emphatically contradict such statements, as my success and any honour received by me was, through the untiring energy and goodness of my devoted teachers - the nuns of the Presentation Convent. I take this opportunity of thanking them most sincerely – Faithfully your, Rita Noud. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To the Editor "The Nationalist and Leinster Times. Abbeyleix, July 1921. Dear Sir - I request of you to allow me a small space in your columns as I wish to deal with a matter which for some time past has grown to such an extent as to attract the attention of those concerned. Some people in Abbeyleix who cannot be classed as either ladies or gentlemen, have become very solicitous (nosey) about the welfare of their neighbours. They seem to think that another person's affairs have more to do with them than with the persons themselves. What a pity there is no Established Union to reward those kind beings for their trouble! It appears that some persons can neither say nor do anything whatever without it being criticised and exaggerated to a terrible degree. Of course the usual story in every town, natives are always trampled on by strangers, who would not be allowed to raise their heads in other places. Therefore, viewing the matter from all points, it would be better if these people would attend to their own business as they would then have enough to do, and not to heed the doings of others. And I can honestly assure them that their efforts regarding the concerns of their neighbours will in the end prove futile. -- FEM. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The above is a true and accurate transcript of the original document.
