Two unusual entries from Carlow Cathedral (St.
Marys) RC baptism register: Baptised September 1st 1849.
Protestants - [Note added by M. Purcell 2010, they were in fact
Presbyterians]
John, Parents: Samuel Snoddy and Sera Barbour,
Pollerton Rd, Carlow. (Witness: John Ryan and Margaret Currin)
Anne, Parents: Samuel Snoddy and Sera Barbour,
Pollerton Rd. Carlow. (Witness: Robert Reddy and Sera Kennedy)
Sera Snoddy, mother to the above children,
conformed to the catholic church in her last illness and
received the rites of this Church.
[Note added by M. Purcell 2010. - Early that morning Samuel Snoddy said goodbye to
his wife and children and left his home to work on the railway
line, when he returned that night his wife and two children were
dead and buried and had also been baptised into the Roman
Catholic Church in their last hours by a "well-meaning" Father.
G.F. Kearns. The family had contracted Cholera and died the same
day and as a precaution they were immediately buried in
Pollerton Little graveyard known as Cnocaunarelic].
Baptised. September 30th 1849. Samuel Snoddy
received into the catholic church this day and Baptized
conditionally in the presence of John Shortall and John Holden.
