The man behind Carlow's leading genealogy website
returned home to visit the county he has researched and placed on the
worldwide web.
Michael Brennan from Ballickmoyler, who now lives
in Suffolk, England, is the man behind a website filled with historical and
genealogical information about the county which was set up to help
people search for facts about their ancestors and the history of their
county.

to view transcripts of birth, marriage and death (not complet) records. He set up this
aspect with the help of a well known local historian, Michael Purcell,
who provided him with a large amount of the records that can be viewed
on the website today.
When Mr Brennan returned to Carlow for a visit he
was presented with a rare publication '1798 and Carlow - A Look at
History by Padraig O'Snoddy, by chairman of the county council Michael
Doran in recognition of what he has achieved. As expected the book no
longer contains rare information as he has uploaded it on to the
internet site and can be viewed at:

‘The site is a labour of love said Michael Purcell,
'It is the most inert active and helpful site that I have ever come
across'.
Mr Brennan might be remembered through his
employment at the Royal Hotel in Carlow and later the Crofton Hotel in
the late 1950’s.
He is still researching the history of the Brennan
/ Moran family who all came from around the Ballickmoyler and Arles
area. The search is proving difficult because of the large number of
Brennan families that lived in and around the area during the mid 1800s and
from the lack of accessible records but he thanked everyone who has
helped him to date.

The Carlow contingent celebrate St. Patrick's Day
after the parade in the Spice of Life pub in London.
Carlow takes to the streets of London

Follow me up to Carlow
rang through the streets of London on St Patrick's Day when the
Carlow Association was out in force to take part in the annual
parade.

After the march they all gathered in the famous Spice of Life pub,
a favourite watering hole for the Sex Pistols, for some refreshments
and to support the Fireman's Ball organised by a fellow Carlow man.

The ball was organised by Clinton Walsh, the Watch Manager with the
London City Fire brigade, and among the Carlow contingent joining in
the celebrations at the ball was Clinton's father Jackie.

There was a great turn out and everyone had a great time,' said
Michael Purcell who travelled over with the Carlow Association. The
organisation of the event was spearheaded by chairman of the
association Ned Dunbar and secretary Claire Nolan. 'It was great to
see so many Carlow people together,' he added.
