 Our
present school building dates from 1952 and replaced the old
school which was built in 1834. Two new classrooms were opened
in 1990 and since then a Learning Support and Resource Room have
been added. Our Computer Room with 12 networked computers and
overhead projector are housed in the newly renovated St.
Brigid’s Community Centre. Our PE Hall is also in this building.
In 2009 an ASD Prefabricated Classroom was added to our school.
During 2009 the Board of Management, Parents Council and school
raffle combined their funds to purchase an Interactive
Whiteboard for each classroom. At the back of the school we have
a basketball court and a football field.
St. Brigid's N.S. is a mixed Catholic Primary School
situated in the picturesque village of Clonegal. There are
112 pupils in the school and a staff of six teachers
including a learning support teacher and an A.S.D Unit
teacher. We also have a part-time resource teacher.

 St
Brigid’s Hall has been part of the fabric of the award winning
and beautiful village of Clonegal for many generations. It began
its life in 1834 as the National School for the village. The
walls must have many secrets and stories to tell, just like the
people of the area. One of the great and most popular activities
now hosted in this community centre is the House of Song and
Story. It attracts huge crowds on the 3rd Monday of every month.

At the 'Looking South' desk in The Nationalist we have often been
known to print an old picture at the request of a reader in a bid to
perhaps discover the identity of old classmates or club members. For
this week, however, we have located a gem of a picture and we are
looking for your help to attempt to identify everyone in it. The
photo is from the Clonegal NS from around 1950/51, and while there
are some faces unrecognisable, if you were in this photo you may
remember who was sitting beside you and in that way their identity
could be revealed. The picture was brought to our attention by
Seamus Whelan, who would dearly like to have all of his old
classmates identified.
