Its important that you
read the following instructions:
This is an Index to Memorials / Deeds relating to the town
and county of CARLOW from 1811 – 1820.
The original Memorials
can be found in two locations. On microfilm at a LDS Family
History Centre near you or the Registry of Deeds, Henrietta
Street, Dublin.
To order a film from the LDS Family
History Centre you will find the LDS Film # which is
relevant to your particular entry of interest at the end of
the entry under LDS Film #.
The most import aspect
of this index apart from the surnames is the BOOK #. Each
film contains one or two books.
If you order
the film number quoted with the entry then you should have
the correct book. When the film arrives it will have one or
two books on the film.
Find the book number quoted
with the entry on the index and then look for the page
number. The page will have in the left hand margin an entry
with the Memorial #, the names the two parties in the INDEX
and when the Memorial was registered with the Registry of
Deeds. To the right of this and the main body of text will
be a transcript of the Memorial.
The originals are
stored in the basement of the Registry of Deeds. If you
can’t find the Memorial on that page then look through the
book for the Memorial # which is also quoted in the index.
Please bear in mind that the original Index Film is
very hard to read and some page number and memorial numbers
may be incorrect. I have endeavored to make sure the “Book
Number” is correct as without the correct Book Number the
exercise will be useless.
I suggest that once you
have found the Memorial then you either take a digital image
of the page or pages on the film. Another way is to take a
scan from the Microfilm reader to the LDS computer if they
are set up with that technology. I would do both if the
scanner is available as sometimes you can read from the
scanned image better than the digital camera images.
Having done both myself, sometimes I could read the
information on one image than the other. The actual images
are relatively easy to read. I have attached an image of one
as an example below: Example of Brough Deed
Here is an
example of a Memorial from 1787:
