Carlow County - Ireland Genealogical Projects (IGP TM)

Denis John Moran
Formaly of Dublin Road
1927 - 1999

I knew nothing was known about Denis Moran and his Margaret until his photo was discovered in The Irish Post in London in Nov 1995 when he and his wife were attending a Killarney Reunion dinner and the photo was spotted by me (Michael Brennan) and decided to investigate because it had said that he came from Carlow, Ireland.

It turns out he is a third cousin of mine on my grandmothers side of the family.

As a boy he lived in number 20 Dublin Road Carlow, two doors from his Grand Parents. His house was opposite St. Leo's College, Dublin Road, Carlow.
He also was a Choir boy and sung in Carlow Cathedral. After leaving school Denis went to work for Carlow County Council.
He came to London in 1959.
They were Fox Trot champions in 1966.
Denis cannot remember his Dad because he died when he was only 6 years of age. His father was James (Jimmy) Moran and his mother was Mary Catherine Walsh also from Dublin Road, Carlow.
He was a long time member of the Carlow Association London and served as Chairman for some years.
Retired at the age of 67 in 1994.
He was known as the Morans from the Dublin Road, Carlow.
He was a member of the local choir in Brockley. London.
He was also a member of The Knights of Colomba.
He was buried in Hither Green Cemetery Lewisham, London on Thursday 25th February 1999.

The late Denis Moran. An appreciation

Died in England.
Denis Moran who died on Ash Wednesday at his home in London, was originally from  Dublin Road. Carlow. A man who never lost contact with his native town. even though he had lived and worked in London for the past 40 years, he loved to read The Nationalist. which he received every week and so kept in touch with all the happenings of County Carlow. Denis was a loyal and active member of the County Carlow Association in London for a long number of years and was president since 1993. carrying out his duties up to the time of his death. He was a lifelong member of the Pioneer Association and also a member of the Knights of Colomba.

A devout Catholic, a man of great faith, who totally trusted in God, he was an example and an inspiration to all who were privileged to know him.
At the30th annual dinner dance of the Carlow Association last October (1998) he was the recipient of a special award for his services to the Association presented by the vice-chairman of Carlow County Council and received a standing ovation from those present.
At the removal of his remains to the Church, a guard of honour was performed by the Knights, and after the funeral Mass his coffin was carried by the members of the Carlow Association.
Denis is deeply mourned by his wife Margaret, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. May he rest in peace.
