Guidelines for
researchers using the
International
Genealogical Index
The LDS church has indexed some of the earliest birth
records covered under Civil Registration. This neat fact opens up
some possibilities.
If you know your ancestor's father's name and the
mother's first name, you can do a parent search and perhaps turn up
a maiden name for the mother or a townland or county for this family.
**You will have to have ancestors who had a baby
during the first year or so of Civil Registration (1865-66).
If this applies go to
www.familysearch.org
Click on *Search for Ancestors
On the left hand bar pick *International Genealogical
Index* (Don't do a search using ALL Resources.)
Under *father's name put the father's name.
Under *mother's name put her FIRST name. I suggest
skipping the maiden name (if known) as there is a chance it is wrong which
will limit your chances at success.
Under *Region put British Isles
Under *Country put Ireland
If you know the county use the drop down box to pick
the county.
Then Search!
If you are in luck, and your ancestor had a child you
may find something you did not already know.
