Jerome Delaney
Rathvilly , Co Carlow

Jerome Delaney (1825 Acaun, Rathvilly - 1912 Dayton, Ohio, USA, son of Denis Delany and Ellen Cummins) married Rathvilly 1852 Mary Ann Quinn and immigrated to the United States shortly after their marriage.

They lived initially in Jersey City, New Jersey where their son Denis was born. Jerome enlisted in the American Civil War from Jersey City in 1861, and served for three months, seeing action and being disabled from a gunshot wound during battle. At some time Denis died, and the next record of Jerome and Mary, I believe, is the U.S. 1880 Census, where a Jerome and Mary A. Delaney are living in Spadra, Arkansas. The ages are not accurate, however, so it might be a different couple, or perhaps Mary Quinn had died earlier and Jerome had married a second time.

The Mary A. in Spadra died of Typhoid Fever in June 1880 in Spadra. There is no evidence that Jerome had any more children. According to his Veterans' Administration records, he lived in Tuskahoma in the Indian Territory that would later become the state of Oklahoma just prior to his entry to the 'National Disabled Veterans' Home in Dayton, Ohio in 1899, where he lived until his death, and he is buried in the National Cemetery there. ~ Sue Clement
