Graiguecullen bids farewell to
a favourite son Jimmy Murnane

The
parish of Graiguecullen said goodbye to one of its favourite sons on
Monday morning as Jimmy Murnane was laid to rest in St. Mary's
Cemetery.
Joined
by public representatives from throughout the country as well as
many of the people that Jimmy had helped and encouraged during his
life, his constituents paid their final tributes to a man known
locally as 'Terrazza'.
Graiguecullen priest Fr. Tom Little officiated at the Funeral Mass
aided by Bishop Laurence Ryan and during the ceremony Fr. Little
spoke of his many memories of the man who regularly topped the
electoral polls in his area.
Recalling his work for good causes in the district Fr. Little also
praised Jimmy's efforts on behalf of the people of Graiguecullen as
he remarked on his determination to ensure that his constituents got
a fair deal.
Following the Mass a horse drawn hearse carried Jimmy on his final
journey to St. Mary's Cemetery and it was along this path that a
piper sounded the last stand.
The work
carried out by Jimmy on behalf of Fianna Fail was then recalled at
the Cemetery as fellow Councillor M.J. Nolan spoke of his colleagues
work for the underdog and reminded people of the character that made
Jimmy one of the country's most popular public representatives.
Jimmy is
survived by his wife Mary, sons Gerard, Ken and James, daughters
Catherine and Jennifer, grandchildren, brothers, sisters,
son-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and
friends.
