Jimmy O'Toole is a native of Rathbawn, was
educated at Grange National School, Patrician Brothers' Day
School in Tullow and Tullow Vocational School, from where he
joined the reporting staff of The People Newspapers Group,
Wexford in 1969. Based in Bray, Co Wicklow, between 1971 and
1981, he was involved in the launch of the group's new
title, The Bray People and was a correspondent for the
Independent Group's three titles - The Irish Independent,
The Evening Herald and the Sunday Independent. He was also a
regular contributor to radio and television news programmes
on RTE.
In 1981 he left full-time journalism to join
the family building business in Carlow. He also continues to
research and write books of local historical interest from
his home in Carlow Town.
