Generation 1

John Kavanagh (b.c.1840). & Mary Anne Moran (b.c.1850)

Information on John Kavanagh & Mary Anne Moran was taken from the 1901 & 1911 Census of Ireland. In 1901 & 1911 John KAVANAGH was living in Killelan, Carrigeen Co Kildare.   John Kavanagh married Mary Anne Moran in 1885. She was baptised on Sunday 25 August 1850 in Kilpatrick, Co. Kildare. She is the daughter of John Moran and Julia Dooly witnessed by William Doby & Margaret Mulloy.

Mary Anne was age 35 years of age when she married. John was aged 44 years of age when he married. John passed away c.1912 (source Joan Kavanagh 2018)

5. Joseph KAVANAGH was born in 1893 in Killelan, Carrigeen Co Kildare.

6. Catherine KATIE KAVANAGH was born in 1894 in Killelan, Carrigeen Co Kildare.

7. Michael KAVANAGH was born in 1897 in Killelan, Carrigeen Co Kildare.

8. Patrick (Paddy) KAVANAGH was born on 29 Oct 1899 in Killelan Carrigeen, Kildare (1901 Census) near Belan, Moone, Co Kildare. He died on 19 Mar 1973 in Sacred Heart Home, Carlow. He married Christina (Crissie) Brennan (daughter of Thomas (Tom) Brennan and Mary Anne Moran) in 1935 in Sacred Heart Church, Arles, Co Laois. She was born on 23 Dec 19 12. She died on 23 Oct 1974 in Carlow District Hospital, Dublin Rd, Carlow.

9. Lawrence KAVANAGH was born in 1901 in Killelan, Carrigeen Co Kildare.

10. Mary Anne KAVANAGH was born in 1907 in Killelan, Carrigeen Co Kildare.

11. Andrew KAVANAGH was born Date 1913 in Killelan, Moone Co Kildare. He died on 20 Oct 1958 in Naas District Hospital, Co Kildare. Buried in Moone cemetery on Wednesday 22nd October 1958

Kavanagh Family of Bestfield. Carlow

2nd Generation

Patrick (Paddy) KAVANAGH b. 29 Oct 1899 and d. 19 Mar 1973 He married Christina (Crissie) Brennan b. 23 Dec 1912., and d. 23 Oct 1974. They were married in Arles in 1935.

 Notes for Patrick (Paddy) Kavanagh:

aka Paddy Kavanagh

In the 1950s when I first met him while on a visit with my mum to Bestfield he had white hair and was very tall and well built. He drank his tea from a half pint white mug.

He had a number of jobs which included Tree Felling and a Farm Labourer. He also worked in the Carlow Sugar Beet Factory.

He went to England in the 1920's and ended up joining one of the many Hunger Marchers which took place between 1920's and 1930's most of them ending up in London. It is alleged that he received a severe blow to the head while he was in England.

He remembered been held on his father’s shoulders to watch a famous rally in Ireland. (Details unknown)

During the War of Independence, 1917-1921 he was a member of the 5th Carlow Battalion, Their Headquarters were part of Carlow Workman's Club in Brown Street in Carlow town.

He came from a large farming family who grew up in County Kildare. Ireland.

He is buried in St Mary's Cemetery, Carlow. Ireland

Notes for Christina (Crissie) Brennan:

Before she was married she lived in Montgomery St Carlow and she worked in a few pubs around Carlow town.
A week before she died she was taken to a Dublin Hospital by ambulance. Philomena, her daughter went with her.
She was then brought back to the old Carlow District Hospital on Dublin Road, where she died on 23 Oct 1974.

Patrick (Paddy) KAVANAGH and Christina (Crissie) Brennan had the following children:

Philomena KAVANAGH was born on 13 Feb 1935 in Dublin Rd, Carlow. She passed away on 07 Jun 2000 in Carlow, Ireland aged 65 years.. Philomena married Michael Hoey from Newry, Co Down, NI. b.1931 and passed away on 02 Feb 2005 in a hospital in Cork aged 74 years.

Patricia (Trish) KAVANAGH was born on 08 Mar 1936 in Dublin Rd, Carlow. She passed away on 27 Oct 2015 in Waterford University Hospital. aged 79  years. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery Carlow. She did not marry

Notes for Patricia Kavanagh:

She worked in Paris, France for a number of years.
She also paid a visit to Russia.
She worked in the Carlow Sugar Beet Factory Research & Development Department.

John KAVANAGH was born on 31 Jul 1937 in Dublin Rd, Carlow. He passed away on the 10th June 2003., aged 66 years. He did not marry. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery Carlow.

Patrick KAVANAGH was born on 28 Nov 1938 in 14 Bestfield, Athy Rd, Carlow. She passed away on Monday 15th February 2016, aged 78 years. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery Carlow. He did not marry.

Notes for Patrick Kavanagh:

He worked in the New Oak Estates in Carlow
Retired from Teagasc. He died unexpectedly at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny.
Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Carlow in February 2016.

Paul KAVANAGH was born on 28 Apr 1939 in 14 Bestfield, Athy Rd, Carlow. He passed away on 21 Feb 2015 aged 76 years, in Carlow, Ireland. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery Carlow. Paul Kavanagh did not marry.

Teresa KAVANAGH was born on 04 Oct 1940 in 14 Bestfield, Athy Rd, Carlow. She married Liam O'Brian from Dublin on 26 Aug 1983 in Killeshin Church. He was born in Dublin c.1940.

Kathleen KAVANAGH was born on 08 Jan 1941 in 14 Bestfield, Athy Rd, Carlow. She married Jimmy DELANY from Shadogue, Ballylinan, Co Laois. He died 2008.

Peggy KAVANAGH was born on 20 Jul 1945 in 14 Bestfield, Athy Rd, Carlow. She did not marry.

Joannah (Joan) KAVANAGH was born on 25 Aug 1951 in 14 Bestfield, Athy Rd, Carlow. She married Victor J. GRAHAM in 1971 in Manchester, England. He was born Date????  in Manchester, England. They had one child a boy.


Footnote:

Having checked the OSi map #16 Kildare - Wicklow looking for the whereabouts of and the seven locations where the Kavanaghs were born and or were living according to the 1901 & 1911 Census of Ireland. I found that the locations are all within a radius of about six to seven miles south and south east of the town of Moone in the county of Kildare. Ireland.

The seven locations where Kavanaghs were found to have lived in 1901 & 1911 are:

Killelan, Carrigeen Co Kildare
Belan, Moone, Co Kildare
Sheriff Hill Carrigeen, Kildare
Corballis Carrigeen, Kildare
