It was known locally as the L&N and it was located at No. 4 Castle Street,
Carlow during the 1950's and sold tea and groceries. In the photo above the shop is located on the
right to the left of the No Parking sign.

There were about 22 L&N stores throughout Ireland and perhaps 100
stores throughout the British Isles.
In the 1890's each branch of L&N issued tokens which were called
'Checks'. These checks were for 2oz, 1/4lb, 1/2lb and 1lb. These
were exchangeable for cups & saucers etc.
