following was transcribed and submitted to the IGP Carlow website

Memorial 45.474.30086 Whelan to James in the year of 1725 Memorial of a Lease dated the eighth day of July, one thousand seven hundred and twenty five made between Thomas WHELAN Senr. of the town of Catherlogh, Gent of the one part and William JAMES of the same, Gent of the other part. Whereby the said Thomas WHELAN did demise unto the said William JAMES his heirs and assigns all them and those, the new slated house in Tullow Street in the said town of Catherlogh formerly held by Thomas WHELAN Junr; eldest son of the said Thomas Whelan Senr; together with the backside, garden, table, brewhouse, out offices and ground cellar under the back new building belonging to the “BOOT INN” commonly called “THE GEORGE” with all the singular, the appurtenances, the said demised premisses belonging in as full, large and ample manner as the same is now held and enjoyed by the said William JAMES except royalties; bounded on the east by Joseph COOKE’S holding; on the south frontward by part of the said Tullow Street; on the west by Hugh RUSSELL’S holding, now held by Richard BENNETT; and on north by Michael GILAGH’S holding. To hold from the twenty fifth day of March last past for the lives of the above-named Thomas WHELAN Junr, William WHELAN, and Elizabeth WHELAN (als. HOWIS) all sons and daughter of the said Thomas WHELAN Senr. and the survivors and survivor of them, with a Clause of Renewal forever at the yearly rent of eleven pounds sterling, with sixpence sterling pound receivers fees and three pounds sterling as a fine for every Renewal to be made within six months next after the fall of every life which Lease is Witnessed by James DILLON of Catherlogh, Merchant and Garrot HOGAN of the same, Shoemaker, and this Memorial is witnessed by the said James DILLON and Garrett HOGAN – William JAMES [SEAL] – Signed and Sealed in the presence of James DILLON – Garrett HOGAN The above named James DILLON makes oath that he saw the above named Thomas WHELAN Senr; and William JAMES duly execute the above mentioned Lease there of the above writing is a Memorial and saw the said William JAMES sign and seal ye said Memorial and ye that he this Deponent is a subscribing Witness to the said Lease and Memorial and that he delivered the said Memorial to Mr. William PARRY, Deputy Registrar on the sixth day of November, one thousand seven hundred and twenty five at or near eleven of the clock in the forenoon – James DILLON – Jur. 6th Nov: 1725 William PARRY Deputy Registrar.
