The Unbaptised in 1838.
From the P.P.P.
1838 -
Case of infant buried not having been baptised according to the rite
of the Roman Catholic Church.
According
to Roman Catholic doctrine the "unbaptised body" should not have been
buried on consecrated ground, a rule which remained in place up to
recent times.
The
unbaptized were usually buried in a
cill’n’ (little burial grounds), their birth unrecorded.
In Carlow
such burial places were usually on the outskirts of consecrated
ground, many burials took place in the area surrounding the "Old
Graves" later known as the Town Park now called Shaw Park. ~~~~~
