Dear James
Your letters to hand in due time.
I was well pleased to learn by
same the very good price you and Mr Delaney received for the 31
beasts. I have been looking over the price given at the faus in
your neighbourhood but you attained the higher rate of any I have
seen yet.
I had a letter from John on the 19th,
he too is well pleased at the higher price received for the cattle.

Dear John Your welcome
letter of 21st ult reached Newcastle on the 1st
mail. I am glad that you are all well.
Your former letter was a great
relief to me when I learned that your stock in Rossena was all
right. And it gives me additional pleasure to learn that they are in
fair condition at present.
James visited me here on the 6th
Nov last & returned on 18th, his mission was to get £100
– but I could not assist him. He was not aware then neither is ....

Dear Sergant
I wish to complain against the way
the Pubs are carrying on around here. On Sunday my husband went to
9 O’clock Mass in Arles, got into Kennedys Pub when Mass was over and
then left he said at 4 o’clock. He went direct to Rans Kilabin,
and got in and stayed till early morning when his money was gone.
Now I must buy fags for him for the week and feed him and goodness
nows I’m not able to do that, so please put a stop to this affair
and oblige.
Mrs Wall

“Dee” Hounigan of Arles is
believed to be the person referred to in the above letter.
