1915- I doctored it up a bit for clearer
viewing.....Who can spot the odd boy out in this?. The
original picture was presented to my grand-uncle Frank
Slater with a letter from Father Burbage thanking
Frank for his financial support. Members of Carlow
Fianna Éireann proudly pose alongside their symbol,
the Golden Sunburst Flag ( mascot lying underneath ).
With a broken glass topped wall behind the...m we see
Christian Brother McKenna seated alongside the noted
Republican priest Fr. Thomas Burbage and to the right
Brother Foran, they are about to leave the school
grounds in College Street and march to the sound of
bagpipes and drums to the Cathedral to have the flag
blessed. The movement was banned by the British
authorities the following year.
