William J. Walsh
Bagenalstown

Bravery Award

8050 Sjt. William. J. Walsh, Irish Gds. (Bagenalstown Co Carlow). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a night raid. Having reached the objective which has been assigned to him he saw the section on his flank was being checked by the fire of hostile machine gun. He promptly organised an attack, and rushing the gun from the flank, he himself accounted for the team. Later on he took command of two sections whose leaders had become casualties, and rushed another post. Great courage and complete disregard for his own safety marked his behavior throughout and were a find example to all his men.
