William Desmond Taylor (born William Cunningham
Deane-Tanner April 26, 1872 in The Elms Carlow,
Co. Carlow.
Ireland. He was a successful US film director and a
popular figure in the growing Hollywood film colony of the
1910's and early 1920s. He was the victim of a murder that
remains officially unsolved. Died on 1st February 1922 in Los Angeles, CA. USA

Biographical Notes:
- William Desmond Taylor worked as stage actor, engineer,
antique dealer, gold miner.
- Entered silent film industry as
an actor in 1912.
- He directed for American Film,
- Favorite Players, Pallas,
Morosco, Fox, Lasky, Select, Realart,
Paramount.
- Served in the British Army 1918-to 1919.
- He served as president of the Motion Picture Directors'
Association for three terms.
He was shot to death in his home on February 2, 1922. His
murderer was never caught. The subsequent police
investigation focused on some of Hollywood's biggest stars
of the time, including silent screen actresses Mabel Normand
and Mary Miles Minter.
They never did find his killer.
