Carlow in 1910


The following items were found in The Intermountain Catholic. (Salt Lake City [Utah] ;) 1899-1920 newspaper.

April 30, 1910

In the Carlow dispensary district during 1909 a total of 340 claims for old age pensions were made of which 278 were granted the remainder except 11 being held disqualified Three claimants died during investigation and eight cases were not finally dealt with.

July 16, 1910

Messrs Walter Kavanaugh and Patrick Kinsella have been re-elected chairman and vice chairman respectively of Carlow county council.

Died June 13 at his residence Ardough Carlow John Hosey aged 14 years.

Died June 14 at the residence of her son James Hickey Bert Margaret Hickey aged 90 years widow of the late James Hickey and mother of the Rev James Hickey C C and Thomas Hickey.

Died June 15th at Browne street Carlow Annie wife of John Dooley

October 01, 1910,

The death occurred recently at Font Hill Carlow of Thomas Ryan a highly esteemed resident of the county. The funeral l which took place to Ballinabrana cemetery was attended by a large and representative number of people and testified to the respect in which declared was held by all classes.

October 08, 1910

Died Sept 9th at Ardattain Tullow Mrs Anne Doyle on Sept 7th at his residence in Killabban Carlow. John Stewart manager of Messers Lipton Co Carlow branch.

October 22, 1910

In the chapel of St Clares Abbey, Carlow Grange recently Miss Margaret Delaney the third daughter of Mr and Mrs Delaney of Kiltale Kilmessan was received into the order of Poor Clares Colletines.

At present there are about 310 people enjoying the old age pensions in the Carlow district. From the passing of the act up to the present time 389 claims have been before the committee and duly considered In consequence of the recent amendments to the act from January 1st next over 100 will be added to the number present on the secretary’s Mr E Brennan books.

November 05, 1910

Died October 3 at Waterford William Maher formerly of Donore Bagenalstown aged 75 years.
Died October 1st at her residence Tullow Street Carlow Mrs. Kate Smyth.
Died September 20th William Doyle Grange.

December 31, 1910,

Died December 1st at his residence Barnhill Castledermot after a short illness James son of John Corcoran at the age of 45 years.

Died On the 21st of November at the residence of her son Duke street Athy Anne relict of the late Thomas Glespen aged 75 years.

Died November 22 at her residence Augharue Carlow Mary relict of the late Thomas McDonald aged 72 years.

Died On November 23 at the residence of his brother Smithfield hotel Lisburn Antrim
Daniel Leeson principal teacher Raheen, Queens county National School.

Died November 28 at his residence The Square Tullow County Carlow Thomas O’Farrell aged 40 years.
