Carlow County - Ireland Genealogical Projects (IGP TM) Christian Brothers School |
Ladies & Gents, we have a bit of a challenge for you and your many
viewers! We are submitting this famous picture of 489 pupils from
Carlow Christian Brothers' School. It was taken in 1958. The
pictured belongs to Michael Purcell, he is able to name most of
the pupils but has some difficulty with the older boys at the
back. Michael himself is identified by a circle to the right of
the picture.
There are 10 teachers pictured. On the right - Brother Rogers, Brother Lenehan, Mr. Darcy, - on the left, Mr Beatty, Mr Duggan, Brother Kenny, Brother Burke, Mr Mooney, Brother Connell ?, Brother ?, (at wall)- the boy, dressed in white top, standing between the two brothers is George Smith). Mr Aidan Murray is absent from picture as he would not stand in for the picture but watched the proceedings from the school steps. We are trying to name as many of the pupils as we can and already have 379 pupils named. On a sad note we have identified at least 25 participants in this picture who have died relativity young. Thank you, Selina. I believe that the Christian Brother at the wall on the right-hand side is Brother O'Neill (Sniffy!). Although, maybe not as he was in the Academy (Secondary School).
