FIRST HALF

From the break away Carlow gets possession, there is a tussle for the ball in the centre of the field and Carlow is awarded a free which is kicked by Jim Morris. Mick Byrne steps in, but he is blocked and the ball goes to Luke Kelly who send a high lobbing ball well in towards the goal which goes wide.

The ball is kicked out into the centre of the field. McCarthy of Kerry gets it, he is beaten by Willie Hosey, who sends it between Eddie Walsh and Micky Byrne. Walsh is fouled 40 yards from Kerry goalmouth. This free down for Kerry sends Kelly and Brosnan into attack. Lawler is there for Carlow. He clears to centre of field. Micky Byrne gets it but it goes over the line. Peenie Whelan sends it into Luke Kelly who side steps his man. Kelly is going into the attack now, he sends it to Archbold who kicks it to Morris and there is a free for Carlow in square 5. Free taken by Johnny Lawler - a long one - Eddie Walsh jumps high - catches it but is fouled and it is a free out for Kerry, taken by Keohane. He sends it to the centre of the field. Farrell catches it. Micky Byrne was going for it too, but was fouled.

The referee blows his whistle and awarded a free kick to Carlow, about 65 yards from Kerry goal in square 3. There is a Kerry man down injured; he must not have been badly hurt for I see him up now. Morris takes free for Carlow - it is a long one towards goal, a full forward jumps for it, Keohane takes it and Paddy Kennedy is fouled and there is a free for Kerry.

Tadgh Healy takes it, he sends it up between Clifford and Farrell, Farrell gets it, he is beaten. In comes Joyce, Ted Joyce clears it out into the centre of the field and Carlow go into attack. Micky Byrne sends it towards goal. Keohane clears for Kerry. Morris gets in for Carlow, he is fouled and it’s a free for Carlow, taken by Morris. Here he comes, he kicks it, a high one in towards goal, but Healy is there for Kerry, he jumps high in the air, catches it and clears towards centre of the field. O’Rourke comes up for Carlow, kicks in towards goal but it goes wide, Keohane takes kick-out.

Luke Kelly gets it and sends it to Jimma Rea. Rea sends it to mid-field. Paddy Kennedy gets it. Bill Dillon is going for ball now, is tackled by O’Rourke. O’Rourke gets it, sends it over to Farrell. Farrell is beaten by McCarthy, McCarthy sends it to Dillon who kicks the ball along the ground. O’Donnell gets it, is tackled but succeeds in sending it to P.B. Brosnan, who is tackled by Lawler and it’s a 14 yard free for Kerry. Murt Kelly takes it - a ground ball, Farrell saves for Carlow. Condon goes up for Kerry but the ball comes back down to Eddie Walsh who sends it back again up the field.

Peenie Whelan gets it for Carlow and sends it to John Moore. He lifts it off the ground - he kicks it -Paddy Brosnan jumps for it, Bill Dillon gets it - he kicks it towards goal. Archbold gets it and lobs it to centre of field. Sean Brosnan takes another shot at it but it goes wide for Kerry.

Lawler is kicking the ball out - the ball is met by McDonnell who kicks it over the bar for a point for Kerry.

On the kick out Murt Kelly and Johnny Lawler go for it. The ball goes right across goal mouth, Murt Kelly is tackled by Joyce, who takes a shot at the ball but it goes wide, Lawler takes kick out, Morris gets it, he sends it up to Doyle.

 

 

Doyle is fouled an it’s a free for Carlow. Morris takes it, it’s a lobbing one right in towards goal, Keohane catches it and sends it to Eddie Walsh. Sullivan of Carlow is waiting for it, but Brosnan gets it, Brosnan kicks it, Moore gets it - he sends it to Luke Kelly, who is fouled and it’s a free for Carlow. Morris kicks it, it’s a short one to Rea who sends it over the bar for Carlow’s first point.

Keohane kicks out, Martin McCarthy gets it, he sends it up the field, Lawler and Kelly go for it, Dillon has it now, he sends it to McDonnell, McDonnell misses it, Joyce gets it, he side-steps McDonnell and sends it midfield. The midfield men, Kennedy and Kelly tussle for it, but neither get it.

The ball goes loose and Brosnan sends it to Clifford, Clifford has the ball now, he is attacked by Rea, who clears out over the line. McCarthy of Kerry kicks in. Bill Dillon gets the ball, he is tackled by O’Rourke. O’Rourke and McDonnell are after the ball but McDonnell kicks it over the line for a ‘50’ for Kerry. Paddy Kennedy takes the kicks, it is gone well in towards goal, Joyce catches it, and clears down field. Condon jumps for it, but the ball passes to Micky Byrne.

Micky Byrne to Kennedy, Kennedy to Kavanagh, but Whelan fouls Kavanagh of Kerry. Murt Kelly kicks the ball right across goal mouth. Clifford gets it, is tackled by Carlow man, but ball breaks loose. Bill Dillon gets it and sends it into the net for Goal for Kerry.

The score now stands:

Kerry l goal, 1 point. ; Carlow. 1 point.

Quinlan kicks out, the ball is met by a Kerry man, who sends it across goal mouth, Archbold gets it, Brosnan tackles him, but he sends it to Morris. Micky Byrne, that speed merchant of the Carlow team, has it now, he sends it to Rea, Rea back to Byrne, Byrne is fouled, and a free is awarded to Carlow, 55 yards out. Morris kicks well in towards goal, John Doyle is fouled in possession, and it’s a 14 yards free for Carlow. The Carlow forwards are ready, Doyle takes the kick and it goes over the bar for Carlow’s second point.

Keohane takes kick-out, Sean Brosnan jumps high, passes it to Kennedy, Kennedy to Bill Dillon, who sends it towards goal, but ball goes over the line, wide. Lawler kicks the ball into Luke Kelly, who sends it to Moore. Moore and Walsh go for it. Micky Byrne gets it, and sends it down to Rea. Rea sends it to Hosey. Hosey takes right-footed kick that goes wide.

Jimma Rea of the Carlow team seems to be everywhere. The ball is kicked in to Eddie Walsh, who jumps high for Keohane’s kick. He sends it to Clifford, but Farrell gets it who sends it down field. Walsh jumps high up in the air, the ball goes back to Clifford. Clifford kicks it to Kavanagh, who kicks it right in front of goal mouth, McDonnell is tackling, but Joyce gets there, he is pressed by three Kerry men, he gives the ball to Farrell, but Kennedy gets it, Bill Dillon is after the ball now, but it goes over the line, wide.

Clifford is down injured. Clifford is up now, and Farrell goes out to kick the ball, Morris has it, but is tackled by S. Brosnan, Morris passes it to Kelly, Kelly back to Morris. It was a grand piece of hand-passing between Kelly and Morris. Morris kicks towards goal, Keohane is beaten, but Healy is there for Kerry. Doyle kicks it right in front of goal, but O’Keefe clears for Kerry. Ball is kicked out. Rea gets it, passes it to Hosey, Hosey kicks it, and it’s another point for Carlow - NO, it is gone wide. From here it seemed to be straight over the bar, but the umpire has signalled wide. The ball curled, and curled, and in the end went wide. Hard luck for Carlow.

Keohane kicks out, Luke Kelly beats Kennedy, Kelly sends ball to Rea, Rea is fouled, and it is a 40 yards free for Carlow. Morris takes it. Rea gets it and sends it over the bar for another point for Carlow, from a free by Morris.

Hosey gets kick-out and sends it high in towards goal. Rea is fouled in possession, and a free is awarded to Carlow, 14 yards from Kerry goal. Doyle sends it over the bar for Carlow, to leave it level pegging - Kerry, 1 goal 1 point; Carlow 4 points.

 

Keohane kicks out to centre of the field. Kennedy gets it, passes it to S. Brosnan, Morris is after him, but Brosnan passes the ball back to Kennedy, who kicks it towards goal. Lawler gets it but is fouled, 10 yards from Carlow goal, Lawler takes the free out. Kennedy gets it and kicks it to McDonnell. Joyce gets it and passes it to Farrell. Farrell back to Joyce. but it goes over the line for a ‘50’ for Kerry.

Kennedy is down injured. He is up now, and Tadgh Healy comes up to take the 50’. He sends it well in towards the goal. Archbold jumps, but is beaten, he fouls Kerry man while in possession, within the l4 yards line. It is a penalty against Carlow, and Healy takes it, and the ball finds the net for Kerry’s second goal.

Peenie Whelan rushes for Quinlan’s kick, he passes it to Morris, Morris to Sullivan, but Sullivan is beaten by T. Brosnan. Brosnan’s kick is knocked down by Byrne. Walsh is now in possession in centre of field, is tackled by two Carlow men. The ball comes up towards Micky Byrne, who sends it towards goal, but a Kerry man was tackled, and the referee blows his whistle for a free out for Kerry. Keohane takes free and sends it to centre field where Luke Kelly is fouled, and a free is awarded to Carlow. Morris takes it. Sullivan gets the ball, and drives it towards the net, but O’Keefe saves. Ball goes to midfield. O’Rourke and Kennedy come into attack. Kennedy is beaten by Joyce. Ball goes in towards Carlow goal but Whelan is there for Carlow and sends it out to O’Rourke, O’Rourke to Morris who beats Brosnan. Morris to Rea. There is a passing movement between Rea and Moore, and John Moore kicks the ball over the bar for a point for Carlow.

Luke Kelly jumps high for kick out but is fouled and a free is awarded to Carlow 60 yards out, which is taken by Morris in toward goal. Sullivan gets it and sends it across goal. O’Keefe saves it. Kennedy is tackled by Kelly who is pushed in back and free awarded to Carlow, which Kelly takes. It’s a high one. Farrell jumps for Carlow, is tackled by Clifford. Condon is there for Kerry, and Byrne for Carlow. Jimma Rea is also there but his kick is knocked down, Hosey gets the ball, it goes over to Sullivan. Sullivan back to Hosey. Hosey into Moore. Moore kicks to Doyle but it goes wide.

Keohane kicks out. Morris gets it, Keohane gets it and sends it out again to centre of field. Eddie Walsh gets it from Kelly. Sullivan then gets it and sends it towards goal, Keohane jumps high for ball but is fouled. Brosnan is down injured.

He has resumed again and there is a free out for Kerry, taken by Keohane. It is a right-footed one to centre of field, it is punched into Doyle, Doyle to Hosey, Hosey pretends he is going to right but goes to left and sends towards goal but ball hops over line, wide. LUKE KELLY IS DOWN INJURED. He goes off the field and a sub comes on. It is Corcoran. There are some positional changes. Peenie Whelan takes Kelly’s place and Corcoran comes on in as half back in Whelan’s place. Play is again resumed. McCarthy gets the ball, the ball goes loose to Hosey. Condon is in for Kerry, he kicks out but Whelan gets and sends the ball over the bar for Carlow.

T. Brosnan kicks out to centre of field, Micky Byrne beats Condon and sends the ball towards goal but there are no forwards there and ball goes wide. Keohane gives short kick out.

Kennedy jumps high but ball goes over line and it’s a side-line throw for Kerry. McCarthy takes it. It is a long one, Morris gets it for Carlow, Joyce’s kick knocked down. Joyce is fouled and it’s a free 70 yards for Carlow, taken by Morris. Sullivan sends it across goal but Tadgh Healy is there who sends it to Condon but Rea is on the spot, and as he goes to kick the ball he is fouled and it is a 14 yards free for Carlow.

Doyle takes it, - a low lobbing one. He tries for goal but McCarthy saves for Kerry. Ball is now kicked out, it goes up the field but it goes over the line wide, and Brendan Nestor has blown the half-time whistle, leaving the score: Kerry 2g lp; Carlow 6p: Co. SECOND HALF

The second half is now about to begin; they are off and I see Rea in possession. but he is tackled by Healy. Paddy Sullivan is beaten by Kennedy and the ball is gone up towards the Carlow goal. P.B. Brosnan sends goal wide for Kerry.

Lawler takes kick-out to centre of field, Whelan hold onto the ball, although tackled. Morris is now in possession, he kicks the ball over to Sullivan who has come out. Sullivan back to Morris, Morris to O’Rourke, but Murt Kelly gets it, and sends it to Dillon.

He passes it to P.B. Brosnan, Whelan nips in for Carlow and kicks it to Byrne, Byrne back to Whelan, Whelan to Sullivan, Keohane gets his hand to it but Hosey gets it and is fouled and it’s a free for Carlow. LUKE KELLY COMES BACK ON. I see Paddy Kennedy shaking hands with him. Free taken for Carlow, but ball is sent wide.

Healy takes kick-out, it goes to centre of field, McDonnell gets it, he sends it to Dillon, Dillon is tackled by O’Rourke, who clears out to centre field. Eddie Walsh there for Kerry. He sends it back to Kennedy, Kennedy to Dillon, who sends it towards goal. P.B. Brosnan tackling, but goal is saved.

Luke Kelly gets it. Kelly to Morris, Morris to Moore, Moore to Doyle, Doyle to Sullivan, who sends it across goal, Hosey waiting for ball, McCarthy beaten by Hosey but Hosey touches ball on the ground and there is a free 70 yards for Kerry. McCarthy kicks it, Farrell gets it, Farrell sends to Moore, Moore is tackled by Walsh, who sends it to Brosnan, Brosnan back to Walsh, who sends it towards Carlow goal, Joyce gets it for Carlow, Joyce to Kelly, Kelly to Farrell, who kicks it to centre of field; Walsh sends it down to Murt Kelly, then across to Dillon.

Joyce gets it, Joyce to Whelan, Whelan kicks to centre-field, Kennedy gets ball, Bill Dillon has it now, he takes kick for goal which is sent wide.

Kick-out - Clifford gets it, sends it towards goal, Joyce gets it, kicks it to O’Rourke, who has come in, Brosnan comes in and fouls O’Rourke and free is awarded to Carlow. Lawler takes it.

Brosnan jumps high, but Whelan takes it, Whelan pretends he is going to kick it but does not. He passes, but the ball goes over the line wide. Kavanagh kicks in to Dillon, Dillon to Clifford, who sends over the bar for point for Kerry.

Lawler kicks out to centre of field, Kelly jumps for it, Kavanagh gets it, Kavanagh to Kennedy, Kennedy to Murt Kelly who in turn sends it to P.B. Brosnan, Brosnan to Dillon, who takes shot which is blocked by Quinlan and ball goes over the line wide.

Luke Kelly meets the ball when kicked out, he sends it to Rea, who runs 20 yards with ball to Byrne, Byrne back to Rea, Rea to Hosey, Hosey to Doyle, who sends it in front of goal, but Tim Brosnan nips in and it goes over line 50 for Carlow.

Morris kicks towards goal, Keohane gets it and kicks, Kavanagh and Sullivan race for ball, Sullivan gets it, he pretends to kick but passes to Byrne, Byrne passes but Walsh of Kerry gets it. He handles ball on ground and a free is awarded to Carlow, which results in another point for Carlow, leaving score; Kerry 8 points, to Carlow’s 7 points.

 

The ball is kicked out, Morris sends it towards goal, Doyle kicks out to Sullivan, who side-steps goal, Keohane and Healy go for it. Rea gets it and is fouled, and a free is awarded to Carlow, 40 yards from Kerry goal. Keohane is down injured, he collided with Healy, but he is up again, and Morris goes to kick free.

O’Keefe saves, and it goes out to Micky Byrne, who passes ball but Kennedy draws on it, and Morris gets it, who kicks towards goal. Keohane punches clear. So Brosnan and Whelan go for ball, Brosnan’s kick is tackled by O’Rourke, but ball goes to PB. Brosnan who kicks it to O’Donnell.

O’Donnell sends it to Murt Kelly, back to PB. Brosnan, who sends it in to goal which is saved by Quinlan. The ball comes out and hits off Carlow back and goes back into net for a goal for Kerry.

Quinlan kicks out to O’Rourke, O’Rourke to Farrell, Farrell to Hosey, Hosey to Rea, Rea to Micky Byrne, Byrne to Hosey, but Hosey is blocked and fouled and referee awards a free to Carlow, just in front of goal 14 yards out. Doyle takes free and gets another point for Carlow.

Keohane kicks out to centre of field, Murt Kelly has it, but referee has penalized him and free is awarded to Carlow, which is taken by P. Whelan, McCarthy comes in for Kerry, and Walsh clears down centre of field.

Whelan gets it back to Morris who sends Carlow into attack again, McCarthy gets it and is fouled and it is a free out for Kerry which McCarthy sends to Kavanagh, Kavanagh sends it between Clifford and Farrell, Clifford sends it to PB. Brosnan, he is tackled but ball goes towards Carlow goal, it comes to O’Rourke, O’Rourke to Luke Kelly, Kelly to Doyle, Hosey is there for Carlow, and Doyle passes it to him, Hosey back to Doyle, who is fouled, and a free awarded to Carlow, 30 yards out in square 5. Luke Kelly sends ball across goal, it is stopped by Micky Byrne, Micky Byrne steadies himself and sends over the bar for point for Carlow, this is Carlow’s ninth point.

Luke Kelly is there for Keohane’s kick-out, he passes to Farrell, Farrell to Micky Byrne, Byrne fouled 30 yards out. Luke Kelly takes free which he sends towards goal, Tim Brosnan of Kerry catches the ball and sends it over the line for ‘50’ for Carlow, taken by Morris.

It is a low one. Rea, Whelan and Moore there. Keohane clears out to Kavanagh, Luke Kelly runs for it too, he wins, and sends it to Farrell, Farrell to Kelly and Kelly to Farrell, and Carlow are attacking again. Sullivan jumps for ball, Brosnan is fouled 20 yards out in square 6, Keohane takes free for Kerry, Luke Kelly jumps, he passes ball to Rea.

Rea kicks to Hosey, Keohane clears again, and it is a side-line throw for Carlow; Byrne throws to Hosey, who sides step Kennedy, Kavanagh of Kerry comes in, Hosey back to Byrne, who sends it lobbing right across goal. Keohane saves dangerous position for Kerry, Morris is now in possession.

Hosey has it now, and he sends it to Luke Kelly, is fouled 30 yards and he kicks free across goal, but Keohane saves. Moore sends ball in again, but T. Brosnan sends it out.

 

There is a race for the ball and ball goes over the line, for side-line throw for Carlow, taken by Whelan, Morris gets it but is fouled, Morris takes free. Three or four men jump for it, there is a tussle, which results in side-line throw for Carlow, taken by Byrne into Morris, who sends high ball in towards goal, which Keohane kicks out.

There is another side-line throw for Carlow, Morris sends ball towards goal, but Keohane again punches clear. Sullivan side-steps Eddie Walsh and sends ball towards goal; Hosey is fouled and it is a 14 yards free for Carlow.

There is a discussion as to whether it is a penalty or not, but he was fouled outside 14 yards mark. Doyle kicks a low ball, which Sullivan kicks over the bar to leave Carlow only one point in arrears.

Keohane kicks out. Hosey gets it and sends to Farrell, who has discarded his cap, Kerry man is fouled and they are awarded a free, Archbold misses and O’Donnell goes for the ball but is brought down in possession and it is another free for Kerry.

Murt Kelly tries for goal but there is a great save by Whelan who kicks to Morris, but it goes over the line for side-line throw for Kerry. Whelan is down injured, he was hit by ball, but resumes after few minutes.

Eddie Walsh takes side-line throw. It is a long one. Clifford gets it, kicks to Dillon, Dillon to Kavanagh. Whelan there for Carlow. but he is fouled and free for Carlow is taken by Lawler but it goes over the line. Side-line throw for Kerry.

Murt Kelly gets the ball but is shouldered over the line by Archbold and ball goes wide. Dillon Kerry meets the ball when kicked out by Carlow and he sends it over the bar for another point for Kerry.

Lawler kicks out to Morris. He sends it to Micky Byrne, who is fouled 70 yards out from the Kerry goal mouth. Morris kicks free, it is a long one, Condon of Kerry clears out, O’Rourke of Carlow sends ball across goal, Morris goes for it, but Kennedy gets it and sends it to Clifford who is fouled and free is awarded to Kerry, 45 yards out. Murt Kelly take it, but kick knocked down by Archbold.

Referee awards free kick to Carlow, for foul on Archbold, which is take by Quinlan. Rea gets it, passes to Farrell, Farrell back to Rea, Hosey gets it Hosey to Rea, who is fouled. Carlow sends in free towards goal, Eddie Walsh gets the ball, kicks to Dillon, but Archbold catches it, and is tackled by two men. Luke Kelly jumps for it, is tackled by Dillon, Clifford gets it and sends towards goal.

Archbold kicks out Morris, who is tackled by Kavanagh; he passes it to Hosey, who is tackled by McCarthy, who gets ball and sends it back down field. Dillon beats Whelan. Dillon to P.B. Brosnan who is tackled and passes back to Dillon, who sends ball to goal. Archbold saves again. He is tackled by three or four men and is fouled; it a free out to Carlow, which Lawler takes and sends to Farrell. O’Donnell gets in and kicks it to Condon. Condon sends it towards goal. Archbold misses it Quinlan saves it and ball goes wide. There is a shot kick-out by Lawler which Luke Kelly gets and Brendan Nestor blows the whistle for full time, leaving the score:
