Obituaraies: Mallan, Daniel January 26, 1892 *********************************************** Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Armagh Index Copyright ************************************************ File contributed by: Jim TeVogt jimtv@juno.com October 13, 2009, 7:30 pm OBITUARAIES: MALLAN, DANIEL JANUARY 26, 1892 The Advance Sun, Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota 3 February 1892 "In the death of Daniel Mallan of Belvidere, which took place on Tuesday evening, there passed away another of the old pioneers of the county. Deceased was born in Armagh, Ireland, in 1812. He came to America in 1840 and four years later he married Harriet Twitchell. For fourteen years he held the position of watchman on the Erie canal in New York state. Then he came west, reaching Minnesota in 1856. In the opening of 1857 he took up his residence in Belvidere, being the fourth white settler in that township. He has lived there continuously since and been one of the most respected citizens of the town. He was a self made man in every respect, honest, industrious and persevering, accumulated considerable property in his time. His wife died on August 11, 1886. Nine children, four sons and five daughters, survive him, The sons are Robert, Horace, George and Warner, and the daughters are Mrs. Mary Mosley (Morley), Mrs. Ella Redding, Mrs, Effie Kruger and Miss Lettie Mallan. The funeral will take place from the late home in Belvidere on Monday. The procession will leave the house at 9 o'clock and proceed to the Catholic church in Belvidere, of which the deceased was a member, where the services will be conducted by Rev. Father Limberg."
