NED DARCY & KELLYMOUNT GANG 1740

Goran, Aug. 30. Yesterday morning one NED DARCY, went to
the house of one Doran, in the county of Carlow, took him
out of his bed, and naked as he was, put him on horseback,
and in that manner carried him through part of the county
of Carlow and Kilkenny, and into Kellymount Wood, where
they cut out his tongue, cut off his ears, and pulled out
one of his eyes, then bid him go to Sir John in Caple
street, give in his Examination to him of their
proceedings, and tell him, that they would serve him in the
same manner, were in their power: as also Mr. Bush. It
seems Doran was the occasion of Darcy’s father and brother
being hanged some time ago. Arthur Bush, Esq: who came from
Carlow three days ago, had a number of gentlemen and their
servants to guard him; and Mr Gore the same from Waterford:
on account of the Kellymount gang of robbers, these
gentlemen having exerted themselves to bring them to
justice. Dublin, Sept. 2. We hear, that several gentlemen
of the county of Kilkenny, Carlow and Queen’s county, with
two Troops of Horse, have been in pursuit of the Kellymount
gang of robbers, and have taken some of them; the rest are
fled to other countries.
