CAPTAIN JOHN BROUGH 1822, CARLOW, IRELAND

MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 1822 [The Carlow Morning Post]
DIED – At Baroda, (East Indies) in the 31st year of his age, Captain
JOHN BROUGH, of the Bombay Regiment, and Commanding a Division of
the Poona-Aux-Horse. It has been the lot of few young men to pass
through the world with the desirably high and honourable character
that has ever, (from his first entrance into the service) attended
him; and it is now some consolation to his numerous friends, and his
relatives, to know, that few, if any, were better prepared for that
sudden and awful calamity, which it has please Divine Providence to
inflict – with all his lively spirits and natural predilection for
manly amusements, which nothing could exceed. He was an excellent
Christian, and a truly pious man – and in hours of conviviality, and
greatest mirth, he never forgot his Saviour. He was at once a man of
the purest honour, an excellent and devoted Officer, and a sincere
and tried friend. His loss to the service, of which he was one of
its brightest ornaments, is great – to his friends irreparable. –
Bombay Paper.
The deceased was son on Capt. BROUGH, Carlow Militia Staff.
