Cork - Surflen, John May 1, 1815 *********************************************** Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Cork Index Copyright ************************************************ File contributed by: Rosalind Dunning ros.dunning@outlook.com September 9, 2018, 1:01 pm SURFLEN, JOHN MAY 1, 1815 Source: National Archives Kew England Written: May 1, 1815 Recorded: September 9, 2018 In the Name of God Amen Know all Men by these Presents that I John Surflen Purser of His Majesty's Ship Phebe being sound both in mind & body but from the uncertainty of human nature conceive it prudent to make this my will & Testament so therefore hereby give & bequeath unto my ever dear beloved & affectionate Wife Anne Surflen now resident in Mallow in the County of Cork Ireland all such Wages Prize Money sums of Money or Monies & Effects of whatever nature I may at the time of my decease be possessed of in expectation of due or that may become due to me from my Accounts Debts or otherwise save except as is hereinafter mentioned that is to say that should my Property as above mentioned amount to the Sum of One thousand Pounds or under I leave the whole of the same to my ever dear beloved & affectionate Wife Anne as aforementioned but whatever exceeds the above Sum & not exceeding a further Sum of One thousand Pounds I leave & bequeath to be equally divided between my two beloved Children Mary Surflen & John Day Surflen to be put to Interest for them in the funds until they are twenty one years of age when they are to have full possession of the same should my Property exceed Two thousand Pounds I give & bequeath unto my ever beloved & Reverend Mother Anne Surflen of Margate Isle of Thanet England Two hundred Pounds to my beloved Sister Eliza Surflen of the same Place one hundred Pounds to my beloved Mother in law Anne Lynch of Mallow aforesaid One hundred & fifty Pounds but should it please God to take either of them from this earthly world the other is to be possessed of the whole (speaking of the two former) or in the event of neither of them being alive at the time of this being opened it is to be equally divided between my beloved wife & two Children as before mentioned as is the one hundred & fifty Pounds in the event of the demise of my Mother in law Anne Lynch as is also whatever Sum and Sums of Money Property & Effects I may be possessed of or due to me as aforesaid over & above the Sums above recited Should it please the Almighty to take either my beloved Wife or either of my beloved Children the Property as aforesaid is then to go to the Survors of the three (as the case may be) in the same proportions as aforesaid or the whole to the only Survor trusting in God that no Person will be in any manner dissatisfied with this my Will & Testament & hoping for forgiveness for my numerous Sins hereunto set my hand & Seal on board the Phebe at Sea this 1st day of May in the year of Our Lord 1813 John Surflen _James Smith Surgeon _ William Burroughs Lieut R M Witness I further nominate & appoint Jonathan Nevill Esqr Merchant of Maiden Lane in the City of London & John Wild Esqr Merchant of Saint Martin's Lane in the said City of London Executors for this Will begging & requiring them to see that Justice is done to my family which as affectionate fathers they could wish done towards their Sons Jno Surflen (Personal Appearance 9 March 1815 of George Russell of Maiden Lane Wood Street London and James Lindsey of the same place Gentleman as to manner and character of handwriting of deceased) Proved at London with a Codicil 13 March 1815 PCC Prob11/1566
