Recorder of Derry, had two actions today at the Quarter Sessions claiming compensation under the Employer's Liability Act. In the first case, a woman named McELWEE claimed 100 pounds for the death of her son; and in the second case, Margaret DOHERTY, a widow, claimed 300 pounds for the death of her son. Both the deceased had been killed by the falling of an old house which the defendant, Alexander McCLURE, a contractor was taking down. The Recorder explained the nature of the responsibility which the act imposed, and he gave a decree for a year's wages, amounting, in McELWEE'S case to 31.4.0. and in DOHERTY'S case to 74., with costs in each case.
