VITALS: DERRY - A RETURN OF INQUESTS - 1841

A return of inquests held by several coroners of
the counties and cities of Ireland for each month during the
year 1841. Giving name, date of inquest, where held, and
finding of each inquiry.

BERRY, Alexander Gawsen, (a child), on the 12th Sept., at
Killyfaddy, accidentally drowned in a pool of water.

BIGLEY, Hugh, on the 30th Oct., at Paterstewart, died by
the bursting of a blood vessel in his lungs.

BLAIR, Isabella, on the 1st Dec., at N. Limavady, died from
the improper use of ardent spirits.

BRADLEY, Charles, on the 15th Jan, at Killawen, died from
excessive intoxication, assisted by suffocation.

BURKIT, George, on the 11th August, at Moneymore,
either died from internal rupture of a blood vessel or by
visitation of God.

CAMERON, James, on the 29th July, at Blakes, accidentally
drowned at Downhill Strand.

CAMPBELL, Robert, on the 23rd March, at New Buildings,
found drowned.

CLARK, John, Jnr., on the 20th Nov, at Drumcrow, died
from a gun-shot wound inflicted by Thomas JOHNSTON,
unintentionally, when firing at a hare.

CLEMENTS, William, on the 5th Nov, at Londonderry, died
by visitation of God.

CONNELL, Michael, on the 22nd Feb., at Dinmeil, came by
his death in consequence of injuries inflicted on his person
by Thomas CAMPBELL and James CAMPBELL.

DINNEN, Michael, on the 29th Nov., at Dreenan, fell into a
ditch and was drowned or suffocated when intoxicated.

DOHERTY, James, on the 28th Nov., on board a
steam-boat at Londonderry, died by the visitation of God.

DOHERTY, James, on the 31st March, in Londonderry,
found drowned.

DOHERTY, Michael, on the 29th July, at Articlave,
accidentally drowned at Downhill Strand.

DONITY, Samuel, on the 20th April, at Taranamore, that
the deceased was subject to epileptic fits, fell on the road
and died.

DURNION, William, on the 4th Dec., at the Rock at
Londonderry, was found drowned.

EKIN, John, on the 22nd Oct., at Druminard, being old and
infirm, and intoxicated, fell into a ditch and was
suffocated.

EVENING, John, on the 25th Jan, City of Londonderry, died
by visitation of God.

FARREL, Thomas, on the 7th Oct, at Kilrea, died by
visitation of God.

FORREST, William/MARTIN, George, , on the 17th July, at
Articlave, both accidentally drowned at Downhill Strand.

GALLAUGHER, Charles, on the 15th Feb, at Ballyarnet, died
by visitation of God.

GAWD, John, on the 9th Feb, in the Gaol of Londonderry,
died by visitation of God.

GIBSON, Catherine, (a child), on the 19th Oct, at
Kettle-House, accidentally burnt by her clothes taking fire.

HAMPSIE, John, on the 21st August, at Coolcoskeran,
found drowned in a pool of water, whether accidentally or
otherwise not stated.

HARROTT, John, on the 6th May, in Londonderry, died by
visitation of God.

HARTIN, John, on the 4th Oct, at Coleraine, died from
congestion of the brain, brought on by over exertion and
excitement of the mind.

HASSON, James, on the 12th Nov., at Maghera, died by
visitation of God.

HEGARTY, William, on the 1st Dec, at N. Limavady, died
from the cold and drinking spirituous liquors to excess.

KANE, Anne, on the 16th Nov., at Letterlone, burnt to
death while under the influence of whiskey.

KEENAN, Edward, on the 26th May, at Leitrim, drowned
accidentally in a bog hole.

KEENAN, James, on the 25th Sept, at Cloney, came to his
death by a horse and cart having falling on him in the
gripe of the road, and was drowned.

KELLY, John, on the 1st Dec, at Gartmore, hung himself
whilst in a state of insanity.

Kane, Mary Anne, on the 9th Nov., at Killowen, was burnt
to death, in consequence of being in the care of Anne
KANE, who was under the influence of whiskey.

LEMRON, Michael, on the 17th Oct, at Mullaghbuoy, fell
into a well and drowned.

LIGHTON, Catherine, on the 30th April, at N. Limavady,
died by visitation of God.

McCANNA, Mary, on the 22nd Oct., at Ballinteer, drowned
accidentally.

McCLOSKY, Michael, on the 21st Oct., at Maghera, was
found dead in a well, but how or by what means did not
appear.

McCUROY, on the 19th Nov., at Ballywillan, fell into a tub
of boiling water, and died from the effects of scalding.

McLEANE, John, on the 6th July, at Coleraine, died by
visitation of God.

McNICKLE, Catherine, on the 1st Nov, at Coolcoskeran,
burnt by her clothes accidentally taking fire.

MEDLIN, Catherine, on the 14th Jan, at Coleraine, died
from inflammation of the stomach.

MILLER, John, on the 20th Feb., at Kiltinny, died by
visitation of God.

MONAGHAN, Michael, on the 30th May, in the Gaol of
Londonderry, died by visitation of God.

NICOLL, James, on the 22nd May, at Ballyagan, that the
deceased was found suspended from a tree in his own
garden, and that he hung himself while labouring under
temporary derangement.

O'NEILLE, Sarah, on the 28th April, at Londonderry, died
by visitation of God.

PATTERSON, William, on the 29th Jan, City of Londonderry,
drowned by accident.

ROSS, Mathew, on the 29th June, at Articlave, accidentally
fell into a tub of boiling water and was scalded to death.

SMYTH, George, on the 3rd July, at Kirkistown, found
drowned in a mill-dam.

STEEN, Robert, on the 23rd Jan, at Literlone, died by
visitation of God.

STEWART, Charles, (an infant), on the 21st May, at
Fillinkissy, was drowned in a well or pool of water.

STEWART, Henry, on the 29th August, at Lisalbenagh,
killed by a fall from his horse.

Spellings as per book ("Mc" names were changed froms "M'"
for ease in search)
