Donegal - Gallagher Family Passport September 23, 1926 *********************************************** Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Donegal Index Copyright ************************************************ File contributed by: Maureen Ickrath ickraths@verizon.net March 16, 2009, 4:54 pm GALLAGHER FAMILY PASSPORT SEPTEMBER 23, 1926 Source: Passport These photos are of Annie McGinley Gallagher's passport from her entry into the US with three of her six children. These three children had been born in the US but had returned to Ireland with their parents in 1917. Additional Comments: Although the passport originally contained all six children's photos, only the three oldest (American born) children were actually permitted to enter the US. The other three were turned away for ostensibly having "cold sores." My grandmother assumed that she would not be able to get the three youngest children in for some time so she returned to Glencolmcille, Donegal and boarded Kathleen (Catherine) age 9, Margaret age 5 and Daniel age 4 with her brothers and came to the US with the oldest three children, Anne, Marion and Joe. The reason she came to the US was to claim an accidental death benefit paid upon the death of her husband, Daniel Gallagher, who had fallen off the back of a truck he was unloading. The company he worked for would not pay the money owed to her while she was in Ireland. The returned to Ireland 2 years later and brought her three youngest children to the US in 1928. She bought a house in Brooklyn, New York within a few years and I grew up in that house at 222 Troy Avenue. Annie Gallagher died in October 1958.
