Hunt & Carol Hughes CASTLEKNOCK, ST. BRIGID'S CHURCHYARD [From Lord Walter FitzGerald.] 'There are no monuments of any interest now existing in this Churchyard. The inscriptions which follow are copied from the oldest dated stones now visible. On the south side of the Churchyard is a flat slab' :--- THIS STONE AND BVRIAL PLACE BELONGETH TO WILL IAM FORD SON OF WALTER FORD OF CASTLEKNOCK FOR HIM & HIS POSTERITY HERE VNDER LEITH THE BODYS OF 3 OF HIS CHILDREN ANNO DOMINI 1720 'More of the inscription is underground.' 'A headstone ' :--- This Stone and Burial place belongeth to James Dunn and his posterity. Deceased September ye 15 1735 in the 51st year of his Age. here lyeth ye deceased sons of James dunn and derected by ye wido dunn I B. 'A flat slab' :--- 1742 This Stone & Burial place Belongeth to William [ ]onnell and his Posterity. Here lyeth six of his children. 'A headstone' :--- Chapeleizod I H S 1773 This Stone was Erected by Timy Brien who thoug ht fit to write this line : In Memory of his Father Iohn -265- who died in the year of 1761 and on the in 16 day of May : which for his soul I hope you'l pray. His age it Being 75. In pace he lived And so he died ----------- ' A headstone ' :--- I H S Here lies he Body of Andrew Tallant and his Daughter Mary Beaughan alias Tallant of the Wood Quay, Who died the 15 of Janry 1761 and 15 of her children. Also the Body of Mary Tallant al' Murray wife & mother of the above, who died Novr the 1 1764 aged 68 'More of the inscription is underground.' 'On the east side of the churchyard. A headstone' :--- I. H. S. This Stone and Burial place belongeth to John Murphey and his Posterity. Here lieth the Body of Alis Murphey who departed this life Novemr the 20th 1724 Aged 35 years. Here lieth the Body of Joseph Murphey son son [sic] of the abovesaid John Murphey 'The rest is underground.' 'On the west side of the churchyard. A headstone' :--- I.H.S.
