No. 40.	Vault.
The entrance to this vault is closed by two stone slabs, one
being placed in front of and partially concealing the other. On
the outer one is the following inscription: --

Herein is intered [sic] the | Body of Mr. James Mtgo | mery of
Carvy who | Departed this life the | First of November 1791
| Aged 85 years

On the inner stone, which is now built into the entrance of the
vault on its side, is carved a coat-of-arms surmounted by a
helmet, mantling, and crest. Immediately above the crest is a
skull, on the dexter side of which is an hour-glass, and on the
sinister side cross-bones. The arms (as far as they can be
seen) are a sword and lance, or two swords crossed saltirewise,
in chief three (or one) fleurs-de-lis, and on the dexter side three
amulets. The rest of the shield is hidden. The crest is a
man's hand . . .

. . . holding a spear. The arms and crest are somewhat similar
to those borne by certain branches of the Montgomery family, but
it is unknown to which branch the owners of this vault belonged.
Carry (not Carvy) is a townland in Inishmore Island in Lough
Erne, then in Derryvullan Parish. Near by is Derrybrusk, where
a branch of the Montgomery family was settled early in the
seventeenth century by George Montgomery, Bishop of Clogher. At
the western end of the churchyard.

Underneath the old church at the west end is situated
the vault of the Corrys of Castle Coole. The walls at
this end of the church have entirely disappeared. The
site of this vault, the entrance to which is filled up,
is marked by an altar-tomb.

Died 22nd March 1743 | JOHN LOWRY | Second
son of GALBRAITH and SARAH LOWRY | Died at
Castle Coole in 1752 | Aged about 17 years.

This stone is modern, being erected by the
fourth Earl of Belmore. He subsequently thought
that Sarah Leslie, who died in 1747, and was
wife of John Corry, was not buried at
Derryvullan, but that her sister, Elizabeth
Leslie, who died in 1733, was buried in the
vault. Master Leslie Corry's Christian name was
John. Armar, first Earl of Belmore, inherited
Castle Coole from his mother Sara, daughter of
Colonel John Corry, and wife of Galbraith Lowry,
of Aghenis, Co. Tyrone. Colonel James Corry in
his Will desired that his son John should erect
a monument at Derryvullan to him and his
ancestors; no trace of it now exists, if it was
ever erected.

this | Life M R H the 1, 1799 agd 66 yrs |
Also his son | JAMES CORRY | who departed this
life | 21st April 1806 | Aged 54 years.

This tombstone belongs to the family of Corry,
of Carrowmacmea, Co. Fermanagh. They were
tenants of the Corrys of Castle Coole, and may
possibly have been a junior branch of that
family. The two Corry families were, however,
related through the Crawfords of Carrowmacmea.

No. 47 Vault at est end of old church

The Crawford family, of Carrowmacnea, Co. Fermanagh, had
a vault in this churchyard, which is believed to be this
one. Members of this family who are known to be buried
at Derryvullan are firstly, Laurence Crawford of
Carrowmacmea, who died 1731; secondly, Laurence, third
son. Henry Crawford of Mallwood, Co. Fermanagh, who
died 1755; thirdly, Henry's wife, who was a daughter of
Captain Alexander Acheson, and predeceased her husband,
fourthly, Jason Crawford (son of Lawrence's second son,
Robert Crawford, of Aughnacloy, Co. Fermanagh), of
Laurencetown. Co. Meath, who died 1769; and fifthly,
John Crawford (second son of the above Jason), of
Laurencetown, Co. Meath, who died circa 1808, and
desired to be buried with his ancestors in the family
vault at Derryvullan. Probably other members of the
family are also buried here.
There is no inscription on this vault.

No. 50.	Vault, inscription on stone closing entrance: --
This stone was erected | by Mrs Elizabeth Auchen | leck
in memory of her | Brother Lesley Auchen | leck,
Esq., who departed | this life January the 15 in
| the year of our Lord 1785 | aged 49 years.

The Auchenleck family resided at Thomastown and
Killyreagh, which town lands were in the parish of
Derrybrusk. This church was in ruins since the
Reformation, so the Auchenlecks probably attended
Derryvullan. They were descended from an old Ayrshire
family, and they held lands from, and were related to,
the Corrys of Castle Coole. James Auchenleck senior, of
Thomastown, m. circa 1698 Elizabeth, daughter of Col.
James Corry, of Castle Cool. His son, James Auchenleck,
junior, was father of Elizabeth & Leslie Auchenleck
mentioned in the above inscription.

This stone is modern, being erected by the fourth Earl
of Belmore. He subsequently thought that Sarah Leslie,
who died in 1747, and was wife of John Corry, was not
buried at Derryvullan, but that her sister, Elizabeth
Leslie, who died in 1733, was buried in the vault.
Master Leslie Corry's Christian name was John. Armar,
first Earl of Belmore, inherited Castle Coole from his
mother Sara, daughter of Colonel John Corry, and wife of
Galbraith Lowry, of Aghenis, Co. Tyrone. Colonel James
Corry in his Will desired that his son John should erect
a monument at Derryvullan to him and his ancestors; no
trace of it now exists, if it was ever erected.
