TUAM - ST. MARY'S CATHEDRAL AND GROUNDS
    [Kindly contributed by the Very Rev. Dean TOWNSEND]
    
"Sacred to the momeory of Emma, Mrs. Francis MESSITER, wife 
of Captn. John MESSITER, 28th Regt, and only daughter of the 
Revd. John George THOMAS, Rector of Wickham, Hampshire and 
preber (sic) of Lichneld, who departed this life at Tuam in 
the 6th January, 1831 aged 34 years.  She was the most 
deservedly beloved in life and is most sincerely lamented in 
Death."

'N.B. The foregoing memorials appertain to the southern 
grass plot, south side of south gravel walk. 

'Two flags near said walk almost facing the old cathedral 
entrance door, between Sarah HARRISON'S alter-tomb and the 
walk, are impossible to decipher.'

	'The following are window and other memorial within the 
twp cathedrals' :-

"In memory of the very Revd. Dean SEYMOUR, north side of 
eastern transept of new cathedral"

'Engraved on a brass plate' :- 'Foy pour devoir"

	"This cathedral restored by public subscription, is a 
monument of the untiring energy and devoted sake for the 
glory of God, of the late Charles Henry SEYMOUR, A.M., Dean 
of Tuam, during 16 years and in adversity and much sorrow, 
he laboured in this great work, mercifully spared to to see 
it completed and the church consecrated Octr. 9th, 1878'

	He was called to his rest April 14th, 1879. lively 
stones witness his faithfulness during a ministry of 28 
years.  [Rev. xiv., v. 13]  This brass is erected by his 
sister Mary MURPHY 1881"

'On a brass plate attached to the south wall within the new 
Cathedral, between the bishop's throne and ancient arch' :-
	
"The above memorial window was erected by the friends of the 
Revd. Benjamin J. CLARKE who died the 22nd July, 1871"

'Furthest window to the right hand, near ancient arch, new 
Cathedral' :-

"To the memory of Mary Louisa, only child of Charles and 
Eliza SEYMOUR.  She rests in Jesus since June 13th, 1874 
[Rev. xiv., 5] Born November 8th, 1852"

	'On a stained glass window, high up in the north wall of 
east transept:- "S.V.B.  Hoc signa vinces, the greatest of 
these is charity -  John VESKY, Archbishop of Tuam, Born 
1637, Died 1716"

	'On a stained glass window, high up, north transept' :- 
"The above window is erected by Charles SEYMOUR M.A., Dean 
of Tuam in memory of his Beloved wife Eliza SEYMOUR, she 
died Sept. 9th, 1876"

	'On a stained glass window, high up, north transept' :- 
"Erected by the Brethren of his lodge to the memory of John 
Lees CLARKE, junior"

	'On a stained glass window, high up, north transept' :- 
"This window is erected to the memory of John DENIS of 
Birmingham House"

	'Southern transept, high, on stained glass' :- "This 
window is erected to the memory of John William BROWNE 
Esqre, J.P. for many years clerk of the Crown for county of 
Mayo, died 11th March, 1875 aged 85 years"

	'High over the ancient arch on a brass plate':- The 
above window and this Tablet were erected to the memory of 
Denis KIRWIN. Esq. D.L. of Castlehackett by his friends"

	'South side, new cathedral - 1st window to the left 
inside west transept' :- "Occupy until I come"
	(3) 	"Well done good and"
		"In memory of Thomas Risworth, Born at Thwaite's 
House near Keoghley, Yorkshire 19th Augst. 1787"
	(2)	"I have gained five talents more"
	(4)	"Faithful servant"
		"Died at Carnane near Tuam, 18th July 1862.  Erected 
by his sons Thomas and John RISHWORTH 1871"
'This memorial must be read top and bottom line alternately 
- i.e., 4 scripture lines only'

	'West transept, south wall second window' :-
"Lord I have loved the habitation of the House and the place 
where thine Honour dwelleth. John FAULKNINER for 50 years 
sexton and verger of St. Mary's Cathedral, Tuam a memorial 
by his friends to his faithful services. How amiable are thy 
Tabernacles O Lord of Hosts" [Ps. 84., v 1st]

	'West transept, south wall 3rd window' :-	
"Placed in sorrow and in Hope By the Bishop, Jane C. BERNARD 
&	J. B. BERNARD, Beatrice J. BERNARD, Holy, loving & 
Beautiful, my Redeemer liveth, Heaven is my home" " The 
above window is in memory of Beatrice J. BERNARD, wife of 
Percy B. BERNARD, she died May 1st, 1876, Aged 26 years"

		'West end wall, left hand side. 4th window' :- "The 
gift if the Diocesan School to the Cathedral of Tuam, 1871"

	"The gift if the Diocesan School to the Cathedral of 
Tuam, 1875"

	'West end wall, right hand side. 5th window' :-
"Erected by Annie M. GASCOIGNE and Georgina BERNARD to the 
memory of Elizabeth, died July 16th, 1864.  Also of Fanny 
GILDEA who died 10th Octr., 1872 - And of her two children 
who died in India"
