Hue and Cry February 24, 1838

"Murders"

1 £100 for the apprehension of James Miles, "alias Mokely, 
and his brother, Denis Miles, for the murder of Robert 
Carter, alias Geany, at Middledowning, County Cork, on 
Thursday, the 25th January last.

2 £50 for the apprehension of John Conroy, alias Connerry, 
for the murder of Michael Croker, at Casey's Crop, 
Glanworth, County Cork, on the 15th January last.

3 £5 0 for the apprehension of the murderer, or murderers, 
of David Fleming, at Clashmore, county Waterford, on the 4th 
February last.

4 £100 for the apprehension of the murderer, or murderers, 
of Alexander Cathcart, tenant of Lord Lorton, at 
Ballinamuck, County Longford, on the 9th of February last.

5 £40 for the apprehension of the murderers of Roger 
Carroll, at Ematris, county Monaghan, on the 31st January 
last.

6 £50 for the apprehension of John and Michael Loughnan, for 
the murder of Patrick Feeney, at Barnacarrow, county Galway, 
on the 3rd January last.

7 £50 for the apprehension of Patrick Sexton, John Lahea, 
Patrick Ryan, and Michael Ryan, for the murder of James 
Stapleton, at Holyford, Tipperary, on the 7th December last.

8 £100 for the apprehension of Bernard M'Cabe, and others 
unknown, for the murder of Michael Smith, of Lisnagoil, 
county Cavan.

9 County of Cork.-Description return of James Brien and 
Thomas Brien, charged with having, on the 8th of February, 
at Coolinave, murdered John Lahive.

10 County of Cork, East Riding, .-Description return of 
Cornelius Keefe and John Lawton, charged with having, on the 
first of January, at Rathcormac, violently assaulted a man 
named William Curtin, from the effects of which he has since 
died.

11 County of Galway . - Description return of Michael 
Hanberry and Patrick Curley, charged with having, on the 
26th day of January, at or near Kinvara, murdered Thomas 
Kilkelly, on his way home from the town of Kinvara.

12 Description return of Patrick Cornelius and Andrew Tracy, 
of Lugglass, King's County, for a murderous assault on James 
Looby, on the 24th February last.

13 Co. Limerick. - Description of William Hanly, charged 
with having, on the 10th of January, at Cloughadrummond, 
struck Owen O'Neille, of Ballyart, with a stone, on the 
head, of which he died on the 14th ult, at Limerick.

14 County of Longford . - Description of Michael Cullum, 
charged with having, on the 2nd of January, at Lavagh, been 
one of the party who met Sub-Constables Mahaifey and 
Rutledge, when in the execution of their duty, and brutally 
murdered Mahaffey, and carried off both their carbines.

15 Co. Monaghan.-Description of Owen MacGrother, charged 
with having, on the 4th day of February, at Ordragh, in the 
barony of Farney, and the parish of Donamorne, attempted to 
murder Bridget M'Grother, his wife, by forcing her to 
swallow a quantity of vitriol.

16 Queens County. Description of Patrick Kennedy', charged 
with having, on the night of the 3d of February, at Sragh, 
given Charles Kelly, of Gegard, barony and parish aforesaid, 
a blow on the left temple, of which he died on the 17th 
February.

17 Co. Sligo..-Description return of Patrick Boyle and 
Thomas Boyd, charged with having, on the 6th of January, at 
Masslane, violently assaulted Neal Meehan, and fractured his 
head by a blow of a stick.

18 Co. Tipperary. .-Description return of Patrick Dunn, 
Timothy Dunn, John Dunn, Richard Dunn, John Hennessy,William 
Hennessy, and Francis Pollard, charged with having, on 25th 
Dec. last, at Ballingarry, in the barony of Sleivardagh, and 
attacked and most barbarously assaulted John Haydon and 
Michael Eagan, of Lismolin, and inflicted several wounds and 
fractures on the head of said John Haydon, from the effects 
of which he languished and died on the 3rd of January.

19 Co. Tipperary, North Riding..-Description of John Maher, 
charged with having caused the death of Michael Donnelly, by 
a blow of a stone, on the night of the 23rd instant.

20 Co. Tipperary, South Riding..-Description return of 
William Aldworth, charged with having, on the 29th of 
January, at Cashel, inflicted a dangerous wound with a stone 
on the head of Thomas Bishop, of which he died on the 31st.

21 Co. Clare.-Description return of Michael M'Grath, Roger 
Guiltenane, Patrick Guiltenane, Martin Quinlivan, and David 
Cunneen, charged with having, on the 2nd day of February, at 
Springmount, in the barony of Tulla, and parish of 
Killokennedy, violently assaulted John Skeahen, Darby 
Murphy, and Patrick Whealen, on their return from a funeral, 
from which beating one of the party, John Skeahen, now lies 
dangerously ill.

22 Description of Thomas Healy, charged with having, on the 
19th day of February, at Derrycaliff, on the evening of the 
above day, struck Thomas Considine a blow of a spade, which 
fractured his skull, and there are no hopes of his recovery.
