These pages contain data copied from N.S. Salary Books at the National Archive http://www.nationalarchives.ie in Dublin In 1873-74 Ireland was divided into 61 districts
for Educational purposes. At present, these lists only cover some districts, mostly near Dublin. Counties - in some districts the county is clearly shown, otherwise
I looked at the address of the school, or just left it! School name and number -- the original lists are in order of school number. The school name is often a
townland - sometimes I've included the nearest town. Although great care was taken in transcribing details, some errors must have crept in. Spellings are as they
are in the books. Where I had difficulty in deciphering a name, I tried to include both "guesses" at it - the usual warning applies - look at all spellings of a name.
Monitors were aged 12-18 yrs - many went on to become teachers. Some teachers are marked "ind", "indl", "agl" ....industrial? agricultural? "Important" nuns are marked "*"
Some people are counted twice. Within a two year period -- nuns are moved around * teachers change school especially on
promotion * women teachers change name on marriage. This should be used as an *indicator* - once the school number is found, the salary books can be checked.
Note: Monitors are marked "m".
